The Daily Express reported that Tottenham Hotspur have not given up on their pursuit of Roberto De Zerbi despite the Italian’s inclination to remain at Brighton and Hove Albian.

It was reported last month even before Antonio Conte’s official departure that De Zerbi was one of the names on Tottenham’s wishlist, with the Spurs hierarchy said to have been impressed by the work he has done at the Amex Stadium since replacing Graham Potter (The Athletic).

However, the speculation linking the Italian with a move to Spurs has died down over recent weeks, with the likes of Julian Nagelsman, Arne Slot (Daily Star) and Luis Enrique (Fabrizio Romano – Here We Go podcast) emerging as the top contenders for the job.

The Express have now revealed that De Zerbi is very much still on Tottenham’s radar, with the Brighton boss said to be ‘hugely admired’ at the North London club.

The report states that the 43-year-old has a release clause in his contract at the Amex, which will become active in the summer.

It is explained that De Zerbi has ambitions to remain at Brighton but Tottenham ‘are not deterred’ by that, with the former Sassuolo coach still ‘in serious consideration’ by the Lilywhites.

However, The Telegraph have suggested that De Zerbi’s behaviour against Spurs at the weekend may have confirmed fears within the club that he is too hot-headed.

Spurs Web Opinion

The only manager I would take ahead of De Zerbi among all the names we have been linked with is Nagelsmann.

I am surprised to see that the likes of Kompany and Slot are being mooted as bigger targets for Spurs than the Brighton boss.

I am convinced that De Zerbi is going to end up at a top club sooner rather than later and I believe Tottenham should do all they can to prise him away from the South Coast.
