The Evening Standard have claimed that Tottenham target Ansu Fati is reluctant to leave Barcelona before Friday evening’s transfer deadline.
Right from this morning, several sources, including Fabrizio Romano, have indicated that Spurs and Chelsea are in talks with Barcelona over a late deal to sign Fati on loan.
A couple of hours ago, Mundo Deportivo even went a step further and asserted that Spurs are working with super agent Jorge Mendes to finalise the transfer.
The publication claimed that the 20-year-old had made up his mind to leave Barca and that the Lilywhites were firmly in pole position to land him.
Fati wants to stay at Barcelona over Tottenham move
The Evening Standard have now reported something different, suggesting that it is Mendes who is offering Fati around to the likes of Chelsea and Spurs.
The publication states that the agent is doing this in an attempt to relieve Barcelona’s financial woes and allow the La Liga club to push ahead with a move to sign Joao Cancelo.
However, it is alleged that despite Barca’s keenness to sell Fati and the interest shown by the two London clubs, the wide-forward is reluctant to leave his boyhood club.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is still plenty of time in the transfer window for this deal to materialise and I would not be surprised if Barca actively try and push Fati out of the door, given their financial situation.
However, the 20-year-old is on quite high wages and it remains to be seen if Spurs would be willing to cover his full salary. I suspect that Brennan Johnson remains the North London club’s preferred target.
