TV Azteca have revealed that Brighton and Newcastle United have now entered the race to sign Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.
Gimenez has been prolific for Feyenoord this campaign, with the centre-forward having found the back of the net 18 times across all competitions (Transfermarkt).
The 21-year-old’s goals are a key reason why Arne Slot’s men are sitting pretty at the top of the Eredivisie table and his record is even more remarkable when one takes into account that he was not even a regular starter for the club until after the World Cup.
The Daily Mirror revealed a couple of days ago that representatives from both Tottenham and Manchester United were in Rotterdam for the KNVB Cup semi-final to run the rule over Gimenez.
TV Azteca have now revealed that two more Premier League clubs in Newcastle and Brighton have also entered the race for the Mexican international’s signature.
Additionally, Sevilla and Benfica are also thought to have their eye on Gimenez, which is why it is stated that Feyenoord might face a battle to hold on to their marksman.
Spurs Web Opinion
Gimenez has been prolific over the last few months but I am sceptical over whether scoring goals in the Eredivisie would translate to doing the same in the Premier League.
I would be surprised if the likes of Spurs or Man Utd take a punt on the 21-year-old, given that he has only played well for a few months, which could simply be a purple patch.
