Graham Roberts has spoken in glowing terms of the style of football Ange Postcoglou plays as well as his personality, but he insisted that the Celtic boss is going to need time to implement his ideas.
It now appears to be only a matter of time before Postecoglou is confirmed as Tottenham’s next head coach.
The Evening Standard revealed earlier this morning that agreeing on personal terms with the 57-year-old is expected to be a mere formality for the Lilywhites while Celtic would only be owed a small compensation due to the nature of his 12-month rolling contract.
The report added that the announcement of Postecoglou signing a two-year contract with an option of a one-year extension is expected from Spurs this week.
Roberts, who spent two seasons at Celtic’s bitter rivals Rangers after leaving Spurs in 1986, insisted that Tottenham are not only getting someone who plays attractive football but also a good tactician.
However, he remarked that the club need to back him by getting rid of the players who are not fully committed to the new project.
The Tottenham legend wrote on Twitter: “As a Rangers man, it has been hard seeing Celtic play such great football this season and last. All I do know is with Ange, you are getting someone who loves to play football the right way, has a huge personality and everyone seems to love him as a man.
“If it is Ange you should all expect hugely entertaining football and he is also very good tactically. We have been down the big-name route the last few years and the football has been horrible on the eye. We need Ange or whoever it is to come in and give us the love back for the club.
“Also in my opinion, we need to clear out any players who do not want to be part of this amazing huge football club. I don’t want to hear about too much running or ‘I have to work too hard’ any more. Winners want to train hard and improve. COYS.”

The one thing Daniel Levy and the club have seemingly tried to address with the managerial appointment is what Roberts is referring to – the fact that Spurs fans have fallen out of love with the side.
There is no doubt that Postecoglou is a risky appointment but he is someone who will say the right things to get the fans onside and bring entertaining football back to N17.
