Graham Roberts has insisted that Destiny Udogie is now worth around £100m on the back of the impressive start he has made to his Tottenham career.

Udogie has hit the ground running in the Premier League, having adapted seamlessly to the intensity and the physicality of the competition, and to the tactical demands of the inverted full-back role in Ange Postecoglou’s system.

The 20-year-old had his biggest test yet against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday as he was playing in what was arguably the biggest game of his career so far and was up against one of the best attackers in the Premier League in Bukayo Saka.

Is Destiny Udogie now worth £100m?

Udogie looked a little nervous at the start and when he picked up a booking early in the game, some might have feared the worst.

However, the Italian showed maturity beyond his years and delivered an exemplary display, managing to keep Saka quiet for the majority of the encounter.

Roberts believes that the former Udinese man is worth an eye-watering £100m.

Spurs Web Opinion

Out of all the impressive signings that Paratici oversaw during his time at Spurs, Udogie is arguably the most impressive as the youngster looks quite capable of evolving into the best left-back in world football.

While his quality and athleticism are there for all to see, he also seems to have quite a calm head on his shoulders, which is rare for someone his age.

Graham Roberts has blasted Paul Merson after the former Arsenal man predicted before the North London derby that Tottenham would be on the receiving end of a battering.

Ahead of the clash at the Emirates, most people associated with Arsenal were rather confident about claiming all three points, which is perhaps not surprising given Tottenham’s poor record at the stadium.

Merson was no different, insisting that not a single Tottenham player would get into the Gunners’ eleven, and predicting that Mikel Arteta’s men would run out 5-1 winners (Sky Sports).

However, Spurs delivered an extremely mature display on Sunday, showing great character to come back twice.

Ange Postecoglou’s men did not compromise on their principles and continued playing out from the back for the entire 90 minutes, and in the end, deservedly emerged with a point.

Graham Roberts hits out at Paul Merson after NLD

Merson took to social media to begrudgingly give credit to Tottenham for their display but Roberts was certainly not in a forgiving mood.

Here’s how the Spurs legend responded to Merson’s Tweet:

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be lying if I said that I was confident we would get something from this game. I felt that a heavy defeat was potentially on the cards, given how we are set up.

However, after the first 25 minutes or so, when some of our players looked a little nervous, I was thoroughly impressed with the character and the maturity we showed.

Graham Roberts has described Peter Bankes’ refereeing performance in Tottenham’s clash against Sheffield United as the worst he has ever seen.

Tottenham had a penalty decision go against them in the first half after James Maddison was bundled over inside the box.

Additionally, the Spurs players and the fans were incredibly frustrated at the time-wasting tactics employed by the Blades throughout the 90 minutes.

LONDON, ENGLAND – SEPTEMBER 16: James Maddison of Tottenham Hotspur controls the ball during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 16, 2023 in London, England. (Photo by Ryan Pierse/Getty Images)

That is perhaps what made the manner of the win even sweeter, with Tottenham’s goals coming in the 98th and 100th minute, giving the away side no time to respond.

Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom did not hold back on his assessment of the officiating after the game, terming it as ‘appalling’, and he asserted his goalkeeper, Wes Foderingham, was asked to play long and threatened with a second yellow if he did not (Sky Sports).

Graham Roberts blasts Peter Bankes’ performance

Roberts has now called on the PMGOL to look into the decisions made and asserted that Banks should not handle another Premier League game in the future.

Spurs Web Opinion

What is ironic here is that Heckingbottom and Spurs fans are having a go at the referee for the exact opposite reason, which shows how difficult the job is.

Those associated with Tottenham feel that Bankes was too lenient in allowing Foderingham’s time -wasting while Heckingbottom feels that he was too harsh, even to the point of asking the Blades goalkeeper to go long if he wanted to avoid a second yellow.

The reality is that it was always going to be difficult for Bankes to show Foderingham a second yellow for time-wasting after he had already been booked for handling the ball outside the area.

Graham Roberts has spoken in glowing terms of the style of football Ange Postcoglou plays as well as his personality, but he insisted that the Celtic boss is going to need time to implement his ideas.

It now appears to be only a matter of time before Postecoglou is confirmed as Tottenham’s next head coach.

The Evening Standard revealed earlier this morning that agreeing on personal terms with the 57-year-old is expected to be a mere formality for the Lilywhites while Celtic would only be owed a small compensation due to the nature of his 12-month rolling contract.

The report added that the announcement of Postecoglou signing a two-year contract with an option of a one-year extension is expected from Spurs this week.

Roberts, who spent two seasons at Celtic’s bitter rivals Rangers after leaving Spurs in 1986, insisted that Tottenham are not only getting someone who plays attractive football but also a good tactician.

However, he remarked that the club need to back him by getting rid of the players who are not fully committed to the new project.

The Tottenham legend wrote on Twitter: “As a Rangers man, it has been hard seeing Celtic play such great football this season and last. All I do know is with Ange, you are getting someone who loves to play football the right way, has a huge personality and everyone seems to love him as a man.

“If it is Ange you should all expect hugely entertaining football and he is also very good tactically. We have been down the big-name route the last few years and the football has been horrible on the eye. We need Ange or whoever it is to come in and give us the love back for the club.

“Also in my opinion, we need to clear out any players who do not want to be part of this amazing huge football club. I don’t want to hear about too much running or ‘I have to work too hard’ any more. Winners want to train hard and improve. COYS.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The one thing Daniel Levy and the club have seemingly tried to address with the managerial appointment is what Roberts is referring to – the fact that Spurs fans have fallen out of love with the side.

There is no doubt that Postecoglou is a risky appointment but he is someone who will say the right things to get the fans onside and bring entertaining football back to N17.

Graham Roberts has questioned The Times’ Henry Winter on why he has not criticised Gabriel Martinelli for hitting the deck against Liverpool despite taking a potshot at Harry Kane for doing the same against Everton.

Kane has come under plenty of criticism for going down in the manner that he did after being shoved in the face by Abdoulaye Doucoure in the 1-1 draw against Everton last Monday.

Harry Kane

Danny Murphy told talkSPORT last week that the striker ’embarrassed himself’ with the way he acted while Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football that he would not accept it if he saw his son go down theatrically in a similar manner on the football pitch.

Winter also took to social media to accuse Kane of ‘exaggerating’ the contact and ‘milking’ the incident.

Martinelli was involved in a similar incident during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw at Anfield, with the Brazilian seemingly going to the ground in an effort to get Ibrahima Konate in trouble with the referee.

Roberts questioned why Winter did not have a single word to say about Arsenal forward.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think it is fair to expect Kane to be held to a higher standard than others because he is England’s captain.

However, what is annoying is that some opposition fans seem to think that the 29-year-old is overly protected by the pundits when the opposite is evidently true.

The midfielder has failed to have an impact under several different managers and the Lilywhites are seemingly struggling to get him off their wage bill, having loaned out the 26-year-old in successive seasons.

Ndombele has spent the current season at Napoli, where he has primarily been used as an impact substitute.

In an interview with So Foot this week (as relayed by Gianluca Di Marzio), the Frenchman admitted that he does not know what the future holds for him.

He also hinted at not being given a fair chance by Conte, saying about the Italian: “There was no other solution with Tottenham and I’m happy I chose Napoli.

“With Conte, there was no choice, I would have liked to demonstrate my value on the pitch but I was on the edge of the group.

“It was communicated to me from the first day of training with the team.”

Roberts has now shot back at Ndombele’s comments, insisting that the midfielder needs to take responsibility for his failure rather than shifting the blame.

Here’s what the Spurs legend tweeted:

Spurs Web Opinion

I think this was completely unnecessary by Roberts as Ndombele was just answering a question he was asked.

I do not think he intended to take a shot at Conte by revealing that the Italian simply did not fancy him as a player.

There was a lot said and written about Tottenham’s defensive issues after their 4-1 drubbing at hands of Leicester City but Antonio Conte’s men have shown significant improvement since then, conceding just once in their last three matches.

With the win over Chelsea on Sunday, the Lilywhites have now won their last three home Premier League games against Manchester City, West Ham United and Chelsea without conceding a single goal.

Tottenham restricted their London rivals to hardly any chances throughout the 90 minutes yesterday, with Fraser Forster having a fairly easy afternoon.

Most of Chelsea’s threat came from the left side from the combination of Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Joao Felix but Emerson and Romero were alive to the danger and put in flawless defensive performances.

Skipp and Hojbjerg also put out fires in front of the backline all game, with the 22-year-old opening his account for Tottenham in front of goal with a fantastic strike at the start of the second half.

Here is what Roberts tweeted after the game

Spurs Web Opinion

Romero was excellent all game and there have never really been any doubts regarding Emerson’s defensive capabilities. The ever-reliable Ben Davies was once again solid despite playing out of position, being tidy on the ball and nullifying the threat of Reece James.

The likes of Davies and Eric Dier hardly get any praise when they put in flawless defensive displays (like they have against City, Milan, West Ham and Chelsea) but they are the first ones to get criticised by a section of the fan base whenever we concede two or more goals.

Graham Roberts has lavished praise on Emerson Royal for managing to overcome adversity and turn his form around after the Brazilian delivered another impressive performance against West Ham United.

Emerson was booed off by the Spurs fans when he was substituted against Leeds United back in November, and it seemed at that point as if there was no way back for the 23-year-old at Tottenham.

It did not sit well with a section of the supporters when the club decided to hang on to the former Real Betis man, and offload Matt Doherty and Djed Spence last month to make way for Pedro Porro.

However, Emerson has silenced his critics over the last few weeks, proving that he has the attributes to play as a right wing-back.

He was one of Tottenham’s best players in their 2-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday, opening the scoring for the home side with a composed finish.

Roberts backed Emerson to be a top player for the club over the years to come. Here is what the Spurs legend tweeted after the right-back’s display against the Hammers:

Spurs Web Opinion

I was one of Emerson’s biggest critics and I am over the moon that the 23-year-old is now starting to prove me and many other Spurs fans wrong.

If he continues in the same vein, he could have a redemption arc similar to that of Moussa Sissoko’s a few years ago and become a popular figure among the fans.

Graham Roberts has hit back at Jamie O’Hara after the talkSPORT pundit tweeted ahead of Tottenham’s clash against AC Milan that the game is not worth watching since the Lilywhites had Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp in midfield.

Antonio Conte had no choice but to start with the two youngsters in the middle of the park, with Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur out with injuries and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg suspended for the first leg at the San Siro.

Jamie O'Hara

Despite their lack of experience, Skipp and Sarr were not overawed by the occasion and were two of Tottenham’s better players on the night as Milan emerged 1-0 winners.

Speaking after the game, Harry Kane showered praise on both midfielders for their displays and admitted that Spurs need both of them to continue in the same vein over the coming months (Evening Standard).

Here’s what O’Hara tweeted when he saw Tottenham’s starting lineup on Tuesday:

Roberts did not take kindly to the 36-year-old tweet, pointing out that the likes of himself, Glenn Hoddle, Steve Perryman and other Spurs legends could all have been written off when they made their debuts as youngsters.

Spurs Web Opinion

One would think O’Hara would be a little more measured with his words, having himself come through the Spurs academy and only getting his chance when more experienced midfielders like Jenas, Huddlestone and Zokora were injured.

However, I cannot say that I am surprised as the 36-year-old gets paid to give reactionary takes on talkSPORT. In fact, I am not even sure that he himself believes half the things that come out of his mouth.

Graham Roberts believes that Harry Kane can still get close to Erling Haaland in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot this season, and maybe even catch him.

Kane’s brilliant strike into the bottom corner at Craven Cottage, which gave Tottenham all three points against Fulham, was the striker’s 16th goal of the Premier League season in 21 matches.

Harry Kane

(Photo by Tottenham Hotspur FC/Tottenham Hotspur FC via Getty Images)

The goal also saw him go level with Jimmy Greaves as Tottenham’s top scorer with 266 strikes to his name so far.

The striker has been written off time and again over the years and has had to deal with more than his share of criticism but he has proven this season that he is still very much at the peak of his powers.

If not for the ridiculous start that Erling Haaland has made to his Premier League career (the Norwegian has 25 goals to his name already), perhaps Kane would be getting a lot more plaudits for his exploits this season.

Roberts believes that the Tottenham man is capable of making up the nine-goal deficit on Haaland over the coming months.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think catching Haaland was a realistic objective for Kane until last weekend but the 22-year-old’s hattrick against Wolves has seen him build a sizable lead over the Tottenham man.

Given the number of chances that Man City create, particularly at home, it is going to be next to impossible for Kane to score nine more goals than Haaland in the remaining league games if the Norwegian stays fit.

They did manage to sign off with a victory but the game was anything but straightforward, with Jesse Marsch’s men taking the lead on three separate occasions.

However, the Lilywhites battled back to level the game each time, with a quickfire Bentancur brace in the dying stages of the game giving the home side all three points.

The brace took the 25-year-old goal tally up to five in all competitions so far this season (Transfermarkt), while Kulusevski also put in an extremely impressive display on his return to the starting eleven, with the Swede setting up the Uruguayan’s late winner.

Roberts praised the former Juventus duo and underlined the importance of yesterday’s win, given the schedule Conte’s men have had to cope with over recent weeks.

Here is what the Spurs legend said on Twitter after Tottenham’s 4-3 win:

Spurs Web Opinion

It is certainly no coincidence that our form picked up in the second half of last season after Kulusevski’s arrival and that our results have been sub-par over the last month and a half when the Swede has been unavailable.

One can argue that the 22-year-old has now become even more important to Tottenham than Son due to his ability to consistently beat players and pick out the right passing option.

Graham Roberts has hailed Ryan Sessegnon, Matt Doherty and Eric Dier for their ‘excellent’ performances in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday.

The trip to the Amex Stadium looked extremely tricky on paper, with Brighton being unbeaten at home since March.

With Spurs coming off a 3-1 loss in the North London derby and a 0-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League, some pundits expected Antonio Conte’s men to taste defeat in what was Roberto De Zerbi’s first home game in charge of the Seagulls (Sportskeeda).

However, despite playing just days after Gian Piero Ventrone’s sudden passing, the Tottenham players dug deep to grind out a 1-0 win to maintain third place in the Premier League table.

Sessegnon put in a Man of the Match performance after returning to the starting eleven in place of Ivan Perisic while Doherty also shone in his first start of the campaign.

Dier put in a typically assured display at the back as he organised the Spurs backline and made sure they held firm amidst the later pressure from the home side.

Roberts has taken to social media to praise all three players and also had some positive words regarding Cristian Romero and Harry Kane.

Here’s what the Spurs legend tweeted after the 1-0 win:

Spurs Web Opinion

To take the field a little over 48 hours after learning about the news of the passing of a valued colleague and friend, cannot have been easy at all for the players.

Every single one of them deserves huge credit for the fight they showed at the Amex Stadium and I am sure Ventrone would have been looking down and smiling at the way the team dug in.

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Graham Roberts has called for Antonio Conte to start Djed Spence at right wing-back.

Tottenham moved to sign Spence during the summer transfer window in a deal worth up to £20m from Middlesbrough (Sky Sports).

The England Under-21 international impressed on loan at Nottingham Forest having played a key role in helping Steve Cooper’s side to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

Roberts, who won the FA Cup and UEFA Cup during his playing career at Tottenham took to Twitter soon after Tottenham’s disappointing 3-1 north London derby defeat to Arsenal yesterday afternoon.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte opted once again to start Emerson Royal on the right side of his defence with the Brazilian having been shown a straight red card in the second half following a challenge on Gabriel Martinelli.

Royal will now miss Tottenham’s next three Premier League matches which will see him sit out the trip to Brighton, the visit of Everton and the clash at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

SpursWeb Opinion

Royal’s suspension is likely to see Matt Doherty come into the side rather than Spence, given Doherty’s previous form last season before his injury.

Conte has previously referred to Spence as a signing the club had made and is likely to continue on the bench and provide cover for the Republic of Ireland international.

Graham Roberts has revealed he feels sorry that Harry Winks has been frozen out at Tottenham but insisted the midfielder is not good enough to play for Spurs given the club’s aspirations.

Winks is one of four first-team players along with Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Tanguy Ndombele, who has been left out of Antonio Conte’s pre-season plans so far.

The midfielder, who has been restricted to inconsistent starts over the last couple of years, is expected to leave his boyhood club this summer, with reports indicating that the 26-year-old is desperate to play regularly during the upcoming campaign (The Evening Standard).

Everton (Liverpool Echo), Southampton (Standard), Leicester City (Daily Mail)  Crystal Palace (Sami Mokbel –Last Word On Spurs) have all been credited with an interest in the England international.

Roberts admitted he did see some signs of improvement from Winks during the 2021/22 campaign but stated that on the whole, the midfielder is not of the required standard to help take Tottenham to the next level.

The Spurs legend told Chris Cowlin YouTube channel: “Winks, I feel sorry for Harry Winks because when he got in the team he was passing the ball forwards.

“All of a sudden in the last few years he’s been getting it, giving to the centre-half, getting it back and giving it to the other centre-half. The game is about going forward not backwards.

“People say to me that Winks has like 340 touches in a game, but they’re all to the centre-halves. You have to be more expansive. I feel sorry for him but would we win a trophy with Winks in the team? Not really.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Winks might not having the passing range to play as a ‘regista’ in front of the back line, I see him as a very useful box-to-box player as a part of a midfield three. In fact, he was excellent in Conte’s system when he got opportunities against the likes of Liverpool and Leeds last season.

The Italian might have involved the 26-year-old in his pre-season plans and even kept him around as a squad player had the midfielder not expressed a desire to leave in search of regular football.

The amount of flak that Winks gets from Spurs fans on social media is ridiculous. Just as the likes of Dier and Davies did last season, the England international is more than capable of making his doubters eat their words if he joins a possession-based side like Brighton or Leeds.

Former Tottenham defender, Graham Roberts has suggested two Leicester midfielders could serve as the creative signing Antonio Conte has been looking for this summer.

Despite already signing six new players this summer, namely Perisic, Forster, Bissouma, Richarlison, Lenglet, and Spence, reports have claimed Spurs are still searching for opportunities in the creative midfielder market (Evening Standard).

Journalist Dean Jones reported last week that Spurs had ‘touched base’ over a potential deal to sign Maddison (GiveMeSport), while Tielemans was also mentioned as a possible target earlier in the summer (GiveMeSport).

Alasdair Gold revealed in June that Tottenham had been monitoring Maddison for a long time, although a deal would be difficult this summer (Football.London). He then later reported those at Spurs were playing down the idea of a bid (YouTube channel 56:51).

According to The Telegraph, Leicester may also need to sell players before they can make signings this summer.

Speaking about transfers on the Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin Youtube channel, Roberts said: “I think if we can get a decent midfield player, I would go for James Maddison or someone like that, Tielemans or someone like that.

“Because they have been there and done it in the Premier League, I also think we need another striker because we can’t play Harry every week.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Clearly, Tielemans is the more attainable option considering his availability, but Maddison makes so much more sense. With Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Skipp, and Bissouma already occupying Spurs’ midfield, a more attack-minded player is needed.

While Tielemans can be creative, Maddison is the more dynamic, goalscoring, creative attacking midfielder that Conte requires. If it comes down to a decision between the Leicester midfield pair, Maddison is the obvious pick.

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Graham Roberts has described Tanguy Ndombele as being his ‘own worst enemy’ for not living up to his talent.

The 25-year-old arrived in north London for a club record £63m from Lyon in July 2019 and completed a return to the Ligue 1 outfit in January for the remainder of the campaign having failed to live up to the heights expected of him (Sky Sports).

CalcioMercato claimed earlier this week that Lyon had decided against taking up the option to make the deal permanent, with the midfielder set to return back to Hotspur Way this summer where he will still have three years remaining on his contract.

Lyon had the option to re-sign him permanently for £54million in the summer with his future now appearing to be uncertain.

The Evening Standard recently claimed that Antonio Conte sees no future for the French international at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Responding to a post on Twitter, Roberts questioned the professionalism of the Spurs man.

SpursWeb Opinion

Tottenham will be hoping that Ndombele can have a strong end to the campaign to put himself in the shop window with a view for either a permanent exit, or another season-long loan deal which will help to ease the burden of his £200,000-a-week salary.

Graham Roberts has sung the praises of a number of Tottenham Hotspur players following the 3-1 win against West Ham United.

The former defender described the result as being just the tonic prior to the international break with Spurs just three points behind north London rivals Arsenal in the Premier League table, albeit with Antonio Conte’s side having played a game more.

Roberts described Cristian Romero who was a rock at the back once again as his type of player with the Argentine dealing with the physicality of the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko and Michail Antonio.

The 62-year-old also reserved praise for the double January arrival of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski who have adapted brilliantly to life in the Tottenham starting eleven.

Harry Kane and Heung-min Son once again showed the potency of their partnership in the final third.

SpursWeb Opinion

It was a good all-around performance from Tottenham with Son having a much-needed eye-catching display having been below par in recent matches by his own standards.

It was a huge three points for the home side to go into the international break on a high and look to secure a top four finish.

Graham Roberts has insisted that Tottenham could be in a desperate position in the summer should Antonio Conte decide to walk away from the club.

Conte has certainly made it clear on multiple occasions during his four months at Spurs that there is a significant gap in terms of quality between the North Londoners’ squad and the best teams in the Premier League (Football365).

However, the Italian has also said that he is now starting to see an improvement from his players, both from a tactical and mentality point of view (Sky Sports).

Reports continue to insist that Conte will walk away in the summer if he is not sufficiently backed in the transfer market, with a potential Mauricio Pochettino return to Tottenham being mooted as a possibility (Football Insider).

Roberts believes Tottenham cannot afford to let the Italian walk away at the end of the season and urged the club to sign the players he wants when the transfer window reopens.

The legendry Spurs defender told GiveMeSport: “I think they (Tottenham) have to buy players, they have to spend money.

“But I can’t believe that we have signed a manager, given him an 18-month contract but we’ve actually signed him for six months and he walks away. I don’t know where the club will be after that.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs fans should stop worrying about the possibility of Conte walking away in the summer. It is clear that the 52-year-old has the backing of Fabio Paratici and the Tottenham board and I fully expect us to spend big on new recruits this summer.

Graham Roberts has backed Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to continue to break goalscoring records.

The 28-year-old was led the line for Spurs in their Premier League clash against Brighton last night and experienced a difficult first half by his own standards when he missed an open goal and also lost the ball on a number of occasions.

In typical fashion, after the break it didn’t take him long to rediscover his form when he found the back of the net after being played through on goal by Rodrigo Bentancur to finish neatly with his left foot.

The goal saw the Spurs man take his tally to 95 goals in 139 appearances away from home in the Premier League, becoming the competition’s all-time top scorer in away games despite making 104 fewer such appearances than second-place Wayne Rooney (Super Sport).

Roberts took to Twitter following the 2-0 win at the Amex to tip Kane to beat Jimmy Greaves’ all-time Spurs record, and also go on to beat the Premier League record held by former Newcastle forward Alan Shearer.

Arguably, the easiest of the three records to break will be Wayne Rooney’s England record with Kane needing just six goals to surpass the former Manchester United player.

SpursWeb Opinion

Kane will comfortably surpass Jimmy Greaves’ record if he decides to remain at Tottenham which is the age-old question.  Hopefully, he can lead the club to a top four finish this season which will play a significant part in helping him to decide where his future lies.

Graham Roberts has urged Tottenham Hotspur to snap up Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar in the summer.

After Antonio Conte’s appointment at Tottenham, the North London club were backed to reignite their interest in Skiniar in the January transfer window (CalcioMercato) but that did not come to pass.

A centre-back is thought to be on the top of Spurs’ wishlist ahead of the summer transfer window, with the likes of Lille’s Sven Botman said to be on the club’s radar (Telegraph)

Skriniar’s Inter teammate Stefan de Vrij is also said to be one of the options Tottenham are looking at, with Conte thought to be keen on reuniting with the 30-year-old at his new club (Fc Inter News).

Inter Live even suggested last week that Inter would be open to cashing on De Vrij amidst Spurs’ interest and that Conte had personally asked the Lilywhites hierarchy to snap up the Netherlands international in the summer.

However, Roberts believes it is Skriniar rather than the more experienced De Vrij who would be a better fit for Tottenham.

Here’s what the legendary Spurs defender tweeted:

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Spurs prioritising a move for Skriniar in the summer as a left-sided centre-back would be Conte’s priority and the Slovakian is not a natural fit for that role.

That is also why I do not see De Vrij being on Tottenham’s radar unless Conte wants the 30-year-old as cover for Eric Dier.

Spurs are more likely to pursue a player like Romagnoli, De Ligt or Botman, who can slot in alongside Dier and Romero in the back three.
