With Guglielmo Vicario officially announced as a new Tottenham Hotspur player, many are excited about what the goalkeeper can do, but one analyst has a warning about the 26-year-old’s main weakness.

After a poor showing from current number one Hugo Lloris last season, it’s no surprise that Tottenham have moved quickly to acquire a new goalkeeper this summer.

Initially, it seemed Spurs would swoop to sign Brentford’s David Raya, but Tottenham were reluctant to meet the Bees’ £40 million valuation for the player (The Times) and moved on to explore other options.

Within a matter of days of Guglielmo Vicario first being mentioned as an alternative, we had the famous Fabrizio Romano ‘Here we go’ announcement and the official unveiling of Tottenham’s new goalkeeper happened today.

Guglielmo Vicario struggles with rebounds

We previously compiled a breakdown of the key details surrounding the Italian goalkeeper in our Guglielmo Vicario bio, including his strengths and weaknesses, but now The Athletic have more insight to share on an area of concern regarding the 26-year-old.

Goalkeeping analyst, Matt Pyzdrowski, had this to say: “One thing to keep an eye on with Vicario is, yes, he makes a lot of saves, but he gives up a lot of rebounds, often into dangerous areas.

“I watched a whole load of different videos and one of the saves he got a ton of credit for was the triple one against Roma, but that comes from when he pushes the ball right back into a dangerous area where you weren’t expecting him to.

“Credit to him, he’s so athletic he can make up for it, but that’s something to keep an eye on.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s almost impossible to find a goalkeeper who is absolutely perfect, so the fact that Vicario has a flaw or two should not be too much of a concern.

He will learn not to parry the ball out into dangerous areas soon enough, and I’m confident he will prove to be a success.
