Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be the only club in discussions to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, and the Spaniard could be set to become the first new arrival under Ange Postecoglou.

The new Tottenham manager has a big task on his hands to rebuild and repair a squad desperately in need of a shake-up.

One key area requiring reinforcements is between the sticks. Current number one and club captain Hugo Lloris had a poor season by all accounts in 2022/23 and is reportedly set to be replaced (Telegraph).

Lloris himself has even admitted that he is ready for a new challenge (Nice-Matin). Where that challenge lies remains to be seen.

One name that has been repeatedly linked with taking over from Lloris at Tottenham Hotspur is David Raya.

According to the latest from The Times, Spurs have agreed personal terms with the 27-year-old and now just need to thrash out a deal with Brentford.

Spurs are the only club in talks with David Raya

Now, according to the PA news agency (via The Independent), Tottenham are thought to be the only club in active discussions with Raya’s people.

Despite previous speculation, “Chelsea have not been in touch” with the player or his representatives at this stage.

Spurs are believed to have held “positive talks” with Raya already, and are currently in “pole position” to bring him to North London this summer.

The only problem now appears to be in the asking price. Brentford boss Thomas Frank wants £40 million for his star keeper, but Raya’s representatives think this is “too high” a fee to ask for a player with 12 months left on his contract.

Spurs are also “thought to be unwilling” to meet that valuation.

Securing a new number-one goalkeeper is right up there as a top priority for the club this summer and it sounds like we are making positive steps to getting that sorted.

I just hope there is no deliberation that allows another club to swoop in and steal Raya away from us now.
