Manchester United are still believed to be in the hunt for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, despite reports claiming Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for the Spaniard.
Tottenham are in desperate need of a new goalkeeper for next season. Current number one and club captain Hugo Lloris had a poor campaign in 2022/23 and looks set to leave the club this summer.
Lloris himself has confirmed he is looking for a new challenge (Nice-Matin). We previously covered a report from the Telegraph claiming Lloris is likely to be part of an exodus at Spurs this summer.
Brentford stopper David Raya has been continually linked with a move to North London, and speculation has been hotting up of late.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have agreed personal terms with Raya and just need to agree on a fee with Brentford.
Man United could rival Spurs for David Raya transfer
However, Manchester United are thought to be looking at potential replacements for David De Gea, and may not have given up the chase for Raya just yet.
That’s according to the latest report from The Telegraph, who claim the Red Devils are still interested in the 27-year-old.
It is suggested Tottenham Hotspur are in “pole position” to sign Raya as things stand, but are reluctant to pay the £40 million Brentford boss Thomas Frank is requesting.
Apparently, the “hesitation” from Spurs could “open the door” for United to swoop and steal Raya from under their noses.
It’s worth noting that Erik Ten Hag’s priorities lie in midfield and attack, but he is also keen to find a keeper who is “more comfortable in possession”.

We really need to get this deal for Raya locked in as soon as possible and not let a few million quid get in the way of acquiring our top target for a position we sorely need to improve on.
