Fabrizio Romano has said that Ange Postecoglou is not desperate to sign a centre-forward in January and is happy to wait until next summer to find the right kind of number nine.
Son Heung-min has thrived as a central striker over the past few weeks, having scored six goals in the four Premier League games that he has played in that position.
Richarlison has also shown some promising signs over the last couple of weeks, with two assists and a goal in his last three matches, despite not starting two of those games.
Postecoglou also has the young Alejo Veliz to call upon if needed, with the 20-year-old Argentine coming on for his Tottenham debut in the 2-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday.
Spurs are not desperate for a striker in January
However, Spurs continue to be linked with various strikers, with multiple outlets reporting over the last couple of weeks that the Lilywhites are expected to compete with Arsenal and Chelsea for Ivan Toney’s services in January (Daily Express).
Romano has now asserted that signing a striker is not a priority for the North London club in the upcoming transfer window.
The journalist told CaughtOffside: “Tottenham are still not desperate to find a new no.9 on the market – they will wait to understand the situation on the market closer to next summer, around March, April or May, but for the moment it is completely quiet.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I believe that signing a centre-back (perhaps even two if we manage to offload Dier) and a central midfielder will be Tottenham’s priorities in January.
It is quite unlikely that we would make more than two new additions mid-season, which is why we will probably wait until next summer to move for a centre-forward.
