Football Insider have revealed that Manchester United are ready to hijack Tottenham’s move for Brentford number one David Raya.
It was reported by The Times last week that Spurs had struck an agreement on personal terms with Raya but it was explained that the North London club had no intention of meeting Brentford’s asking price of £40m for their number one.
The 27-year-old stated a couple of days ago that he is seeking a new challenge away from the Bees, admitting that he dreams of competing for trophies and playing in Europe (The Times).
Man United are ready to fight Spurs for David Raya
If Football Insider’s latest update is to be believed, Manchester United are now ready to push forward with a move for Raya.
The outlet states that the Spaniard is ‘admired’ by the recruitment chiefs at Old Trafford, who are looking to bring in a goalkeeper who can offer competition for David De Gea.
It is alleged that Raya is viewed by the club as someone who fits Erik Ten Hag’s profile due to his ability to play out from the back under pressure.
The report adds that the Red Devils face ‘strong competition from Spurs for the Brentford number one’s signature.
Spurs Web Opinion
The fact that Raya is considered homegrown (owing to spending three years with Blackburn before turning 21) will undoubtedly make him a very lucrative option to any Premier League club looking for a goalkeeper.
I would not be surprised if Chelsea also enter the race for the Brentford star over the coming days. So, it would be in Tottenham’s interest to wrap up the deal quickly, even if it means paying a premium.
