Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are ‘determined’ to ensure that they land David Raya at a fraction of the fee Brentford are currently demanding.

It has been widely reported over the last week that even though Spurs have agreed personal terms with Raya, they have no intention of meeting Brentford’s asking price of £40m (The Times).

The Daily Mail even claimed on June 13 that the Bees are not willing to lower their demands and could decide to let the Spaniard rot on the bench next season if they do not get the fee they are looking for.

However, this information has now been contradicted by Football Insider, who suggests that Spurs are of the belief that they can land the goalkeeper for a much lower fee.

The publication reveals that neither Tottenham nor Manchester United, who also have their eye on Raya, are prepared to meet Brentford’s £40m valuation.

It is asserted that both clubs are engaging in a level of ‘brinkmanship’ as they negotiate for the 27-year-old because they both know Thomas Frank’s men will not risk losing their number one on a free transfer next summer, particularly since they have already signed Mark Flekken from Freiburg.

Brentford would likely relax their demands as we get deeper into the transfer window but the question for Spurs is whether they are willing to wait and risk another club swooping for the Spaniard.

I suspect that an offer of around £30m right now would be enough to tempt the Bees from cashing in on their number one.
