Hugo Lloris has admitted that he found his first few weeks at Tottenham difficult after Andre Villas-Boas continued to keep faith in Brad Friedel.
The French goalkeeper found himself among the subs after his move from Lyon for the first two months but has now established himself as Tottenham’s new number one with some impressive displays between the sticks. His speed off his line to act as a keeper-sweeper has also been impressive due to the high defensive line AVB likes to play.
It’s interesting from his comments below that he was assured a first team starting position before moving to the Lane – that’s something we should not offer any player.
“Things were very clear, that I was coming to Tottenham as the number one,” he said on French radio station RTL.
“But the manager made a decision at the start, and then made a different one a few weeks later.
“The negotiations over the move were with the chairman, but it was also the choice of the coach. I also had talks with him during that time.
“It’s not easy, because I came in after the start of the season, and he was already under pressure because the results were not good at that point in time.
“It’s the sort of situation which helps you grow, it’s a personal challenge.”
