RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins has claimed that Hugo Lloris could now stay put at Tottenham after the goalkeeper rejected Lazio’s latest offer this morning.

Last week, L’Equipe claimed that Lloris was set to turn down the chance to join Lazio as the former Tottenham captain was not keen on being the Serie A club’s number two.

However, over the last few days, it has been reported by several Italian outlets (including Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness) that the deal was not quite dead in the water and there was still a slim chance that the 36-year-old would head to the Italian capital.

Hugo Lloris turns down Lazio’s final offer

Hawkins has now taken to social media to reveal that this morning the Serie A side offered the Tottenham man a two-year contract with an option of a one-year extension.

However, Lloris turned down the offer, thus closing the door on a switch to the Stadio Olimpico this summer.

The journalist stated that while the goalkeeper remains open to other offers until the end of the transfer window, there is now a possibility that he could remain at Spurs.

It would have made no sense for Lloris to join as Lazio’s understudy after rejecting the chance to be the second-choice goalkeeper at Tottenham.

If the 36-year-old does decide to stay at Spurs and see out his contract, the North London club might perhaps look to offload Fraser Forster, who also only has a year left in his deal.
