In his latest press conference, Ange Postecoglou has very strongly suggested that Hugo Lloris will not remain at the club for the coming season, despite there being very little progress in offloading the goalkeeper so far this summer.
After more than a decade at the club, and eight years as the captain of Tottenham, Hugo Lloris appears to be on his way out of North London during the current transfer window.
The Frenchman was one of the main culprits when it came to poor performers for Spurs in the 2022/23 campaign.
His low point, and perhaps the final time we will see him in a Tottenham shirt, was the huge defeat against Newcastle United in April, where Lloris was replaced at half-time.
Lloris was injured for the final six games of the season, with Fraser Forster taking his place. Now, the 36-year-old has seen Guglielmo Vicario arrive at Spurs and take over as first-choice goalkeeper, while Heung-min Son has been named the new club captain.
It was widely expected that Lloris would sign for Lazio last week, but that move fell through when the Spurs man decided he did not want to be a back-up goalkeeper for the Italian side (L’Equipe).
Since then, it has been suggested Lloris may even stay with Tottenham this year (Fabrice Hawkins).
Postecoglou hints Lloris will not stay at Spurs
Speaking to the press today (via Football.London), Ange Postecoglou was asked about the chances of the former skipper sticking around, but the Australian seemed to suggest that won’t happen.
He said: “You can’t just have any number of players you want and I’d say it’s unlikely we’ll have three goalkeepers on our list.”

While Ange doesn’t explicitly say Hugo Lloris is going to be moved on, we know what he is implying. Guglielmo Vicario obviously isn’t going anywhere, and Fraser Forster signed a new deal this summer, so Lloris has to leave one way or another.
There is still time for him to find a club that will make him their number-one stopper, and hopefully it all works out for him.
