The Evening Standard reveal that the Tottenham hierarchy have been left baffled by Hugo Lloris rejecting several approaches from various clubs despite making it clear that he wants a fresh challenge.
Lloris admitted over the weekend that he turned down a deadline day offer to return to his boyhood club Nice (Nice-Matin).
The former Tottenham captain explained that there was simply not enough time for him to have a discussion with the Ligue 1 club regarding their project and his prospects of game time.
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed on Sunday that even though Spurs are willing to let the goalkeeper leave without any transfer fee, he keeps rejecting offer after offer.
Tottenham baffled at Hugo Lloris’ conduct
The Evening Standard have now claimed that Lloris turned down more than one lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia as well as interest from both Lazio and Newcastle United.
It is explained that the 36-year-old’s reluctance to accept any offer despite being informed that he will not be part of the club’s Premier League squad has left decision-makers at Spurs ‘surprised and unsure’ of his intentions.
The publication adds that Lloris is now expected to remain at Tottenham at least until the January transfer window.
Spurs Web Opinion
Lloris’ behaviour has been quite bizarre. Perhaps, the goalkeeper was expecting some better offers (potentially from France), which just did not materialise.
Given that the 36-year-old only has a couple of years left in the game, I am surprised that he has decided to spend the next six months on the sidelines at Tottenham.
