In what comes as a potential boost to Tottenham in their quest to hold on to Harry Kane, Gazzetta dello Sport have revealed that Manchester United sent scouts to Italy over the weekend to watch AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham in action.
Multiple publications have reported over the last few months that Manchester United is the most likely destination for Kane should the striker decide to leave Spurs in the summer.
In fact, The Daily Star even claimed a few days ago that the England captain has decided against signing a new contract in North London and that the Red Devils believe they would be able to sign the Spurs man for £80m plus adds on this summer.
However, if Gazzetta’s latest report is to be believed, United also have their eye on a Kane alternative in the form of Abraham.
The publication reveals that representatives from Old Trafford have been to Italy ‘several times’ this season to watch the Roma star and were also in attendance at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday to watch the Giallorossi’s clash against Milan.
Abraham found the back of the net in stoppage time as Jose Mourinho’s men played out a 1-1 draw.
Interestingly, the report adds that scouts from Tottenham were also present in Rome on Saturday and it is suggested that the Lilywhites might have also been studying Abraham as a potential replacement for Kane if the 29-year-old leaves this summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
If we do lose Kane, I would be quite underwhelmed if we replace him with Abraham as I am not convinced that the 25-year-old would be prolific in the Premier League.
I would rather see Spurs pull out all the stops to get Ivan Toney from Brentford.
