Multiple Italian outlets have reported over the past 24 hours that Tottenham Hotspur are at the front of the queue to snap up Roma centre-back Roger Ibanez.
This includes Gazzetta dello Sport, who state that Roma were hoping to balance their books by cashing in on Tammy Abraham but that is no longer possible since the striker has suffered a serious injury.
Instead, it is alleged that Jose Mourinho’s men could now decide to sell Ibanez, who is attracting plenty of interest.
The report states that Tottenham are currently leading the race for the centre-back, who is allegedly valued at between €35m (£30.1m) and €40m (£34.4m).
Spurs said to be in the chasing pack for Roger Ibanez
Sport Mediaset also name Spurs as one of the leading contenders for Ibanez’s signature, stating that the North London club are facing competition from Atletico Madrid for the 24-year-old.
The outlet adds that Roma ‘urgently’ need to raise funds to offset their losses and that the Serie A side are now ready to sell the Brazil international for €40m (£34.4m).
Spurs Web Opinion
One would expect the Tottenham hierarchy to arrive at their final list of targets in each position over the next few days after discussions with Postecoglou.
The club may see Ibanez as a good market opportunity but I suspect that the Roma star was primarily a Fabio Paratici target.
