According to Roma Giallorossa (12/06/23 as translated by Sport Witness), Tottenham have ‘intensified’ their contacts with AS Roma over Roger Ibanez in the ‘last few hours’, with Spurs considering an official offer for the centre-back ‘within a few days’.
We previously covered a report in the print edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport Witness) which claimed that Roma were in a hurry to cash in on Ibanez in order to balance their finances.
The publication revealed that Tottenham had their eye on the Brazilian but it was explained that the Giallorossi needed an offer to arrive soon since they had to sell the player before the end of June to comply with the FFP regulations.
Spurs are pushing hard to sign Roger Ibanez
This information has now been backed up by Roma Giallorossa, who claim that the Italian club have to raise around €30m (£25.7m) by the end of this month.
The report adds that Spurs and West Ham are both ‘monitoring’ Ibanez but the Lilywhites club are ‘above all’ in the race for the player.
It is revealed that Jose Mourinho’s men want a fee of around €30m to €35m (£25.7m – £30m) for the centre-back while Tottenham are looking to strike a deal for around €25m to €30m (£21.4-£25.7m).
Roma Giallorossa also assert that new Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou is an ‘admirer’ of Ibanez.
Spurs Web Opinion
This sort of deal is right up Levy’s alley as the Spurs chairman might relish the prospect of trying to sign Ibanez on a discount, given that Roma are now desperate for a cash injection.
However, I doubt if the Brazilian would be near the top of Tottenham’s centre-back wishlist this summer.
