Romagiallorossa.it have revealed that AS Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto is now ready to speak to Tottenham Hotspur regarding Roger Ibanez, having been busy with other deals over the last couple of days.
A few days ago, we relayed a report from the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (15/06/23 via Sport Witness) which revealed that Pinto was in London and was expected to try and agree on Ibanez’s sale.
The report explained that amidst interest from Spurs in the centre-back, the Giallorossi want to agree on a quick sale due to their need to raise funds before the end of the month to balance their books.
Roma set to meet with Spurs about Roger Ibanez
Romagiallorossa have now also confirmed that Pinto has indeed been in the English capital over the last few days, with the publication explaining that he has been meeting with West Ham to discuss the purchase of Gianluca Scamacca.
The Portuguese director is now said to be ready to start ‘new contacts’ with Tottenham regarding Ibanez to evaluate the possibility of a deal.
The report asserts that Roma club value the Brazilian at around €30m-€35m (£25.6m-£29.8m), which Spurs are ‘unlikely’ to pay.
However, Romagiallorossa add that Pinto ‘will try’ to achieve a sale as Jose Mourinho’s men need to raise €30m (£25.6m) before the end of June in order to remain within the Financial Fair Play guidelines.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham would perhaps look to take advantage of Roma’s desperation to try and get a favourable deal for Ibanez. I can see Levy potentially making a £15m-£20m offer to test the Giallorossi’s resolve.
While the 24-year-old might not be the answer to our defensive woes, his versatility means that he could be more than a useful squad player, particularly with Sanchez and Tanganga seemingly on their way out.
