According to The Mirror, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is urging club Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward to splash out up to £60 million on transfer target Eric Dier this Summer.
Throughout May and early June, rumours circulated that Manchester United were eyeing up a £40 million move for the English midfielder, however Spurs stood firm claiming the 23 year old was not for sale.
Recently, the speculation has risen once again, but this time reports are suggesting Dier is a top Summer target for Jose Mourinho, who is willing to pull out all the stops to land the versatile defender’s signature.
Manchester United will have a hard time convincing Tottenham to sell though, as yet again the club has insisted their player is not for sale at any price.
Even at £60 million I’d expect Daniel Levy to reject United’s approach. Year by year Pochettino has transformed the mentality at Tottenham and he’s injected some much needed ambition into the club, from the squad right up to the boardroom.
Spurs are no longer a selling club, but it seems most of these papers haven’t got the memo. I don’t want to be doing the media’s dirty work by reporting on these stories, sometimes it feels as though all the English Dailys are under Woodward’s management.
No one really believes that Dier is going to Man United, regardless of any bid them lot make and I reckon this is the last any of us wants to hear about this transfer story.
So I’ll leave it on this note:
United are not getting Dier. Tottenham are not selling Dier. End of.
