Mauricio Pochettino has again reiterated that we will struggle to compete with the spending power of the two Manchester clubs.
We trail Premier League leaders Manchester City and second-placed Manchester United by five points as we head in to our match with lowly Bournemouth at “home” at Wembley on Saturday.
Both Manchester clubs spent big during the summer transfer window, with City manager Pep Guardiola bringing in three full-backs alone for upwards of £130m and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho splashing out £75m to bring in just Romelu Lukaku from Everton, and the Spurs manager admits he will have to continue to adopt a different transfer policy to that of his Premier League rivals.
“The difference these days between clubs in the Premier League is that there are clubs, like City and United, who sign who they want and when they want,” the Argentinian manager told Tv channel beIN Sports.
“Then there are big teams, like us, who sign when we can and who we can. It’s the big difference today.”
Though we spent relatively well towards the end of the transfer window, with the arrivals of the likes Davison Sanchez, Serge Aurier, Juan Foyth, and Fernando Llorente we still haven’t the power to go and spend £75m on one player alone.
We continue to rely on the goals from Harry Kane, and we will need to improve our record at Wembley if we are to mount a title challenge like last season.
Our away form has been flawless but with just two points from home matches we really need to get that chalked off starting with Bournemouth on Saturday (3pm Kick off)
