Romagiallorossa.it have claimed that AS Roma are eyeing Antonio Conte as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho if the Portuguese coach departs the club.
Although Conte’s current deal at Tottenham is due to run out in the summer, Football.London reported a few days ago that people at the North London club believe the Italian is happy and expect him to sign a new contract.
However, this has not stopped the speculation over the 53-year-old’s future, with reports from Italy suggesting over recent months that the Spurs head coach is Juventus’ number one target to replace Massimiliano Allegri at the end of the season (Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness).
Romagiallorossa.it have now claimed that Conte might follow Mourinho’s path by swapping the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Stadio Olimpico.
The report explains that following Fernando Santos’ exit from Portugal’s national team, Mourinho is being mooted as a serious candidate for the job.
The Giallorossi are thus alleged to be drafting contingency plans and are ‘seriously thinking’ about Conte, due to his contract situation at Spurs.
Spurs Web Opinion
It is hilarious to suggest that Conte would consider swapping Spurs for Roma. The 53-year-old is certainly not going to get more money to spend or work with a better squad at the Italian capital than he is at Spurs.
At least the Juve rumours were realistic, given the affection that the Tottenham boss has for the Old Lady. However, a move from Tottenham to Roma would be a step down in every way.
