Romagiallorossa.it claim that AS Roma have initiated contact with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a summer deal for Eric Dier.
Dier has been at Tottenham for nine seasons since first joining the club from Sporting Lisbon back in 2014.
The centre-back will run into the final year of his contract this June but Football Insider reported back in February that Spurs are expected to open talks with the centre-back on a three-year deal.
Romagiallorossa.it have now asserted that the England international could be on his way to the Stadio Olimpico at the end of the season as he has now emerged as a target for Roma.
The report explains that although there were initially some concerns over Jose Mourinho’s future, the former Spurs head coach is now expected to remain in the Italian capital.
Mourinho could now be reunited with Dier as the Giallorossi are said to have identified the Tottenham man as an option to bolster their backline.
It is asserted that Roma general manager Tiago Pinto has initiated contacts to sign the centre-back, with the Serie A club hoping that their good relationship with Spurs could ‘favour’ them during the negotiations.
Spurs Web Opinion
While Jose was clearly a fan of Dier when he first arrived at Spurs, it seemed like the Portuguese coach lost his patience with the centre-back towards the end of his time at the club, having dropped him from the starting eleven.
So, I would be surprised if the 60-year-old gave the green light for Roma to move for the Spurs man.
