Fabrizio Romano has taken to Instagram to reveal that Tottenham will now focus on bringing a new centre-back in following the successful James Maddison deal.

This comes after Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas also reported that following the arrival of Guglielmo Vicario, Tottenham would look to prioritise the signings of an attacking midfielder and a central defender.

Vicario became the first new face to arrive through the door at Hotspur Way during the transfer window, with Spurs confirming the 26-year-old’s capture on Tuesday.

The Italian arrives in North London on the back of two exceptional seasons at Empoli and in his first interview with the club’s official website, he described the move as a dream come true and admitted that he cannot wait to get started.

New centre-back is at the top of the Tottenham list

James Maddison then arrived through the doors this week, meaning Daniel Levy and co will next focus on a new centre-back to fix their defensive woes.

This has been confirmed by both Romano and Thomas in the past week.

If Tottenham can also agree on a deal for Edmond Taposba before pre-season gets underway next week, we would have addressed three crucial positions quite early in the window.

That would leave the club plenty of time to look for reinforcements in other areas of the pitch and sign a replacement for Harry Kane if the striker does seal a move to Bayern Munich.
