Ange Postecoglou has been speaking about the signings of James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario in his first interview as Tottenham Hotspur boss.
Spurs have moved uncharacteristically quickly to secure their first two signings of the summer, strengthening between the sticks and in creative midfield.
Maybe Lilywhite fans would accuse the Spurs hierarchy of never replacing Christian Eriksen, despite the playmaker leaving N17 back in 2019. However, Maddison could now fill that creative void.
Guglielmo Vicario, on the other hand, is an exciting up-and-coming goalkeeper from Serie A, who shone for Empoli last season with his lightning reactions and reflex saves.
However, it appears that Postecoglou is just as interested in the pair off the pitch as he is in their talents on it, highlighting the importance of having the right personalities around the squad.
He also confirmed that he had spoken to both players a couple of times before Tottenham signed them this summer.
Postecoglou was left impressed by new Spurs duo
Postecoglou said (Tottenham Official via Football London): “It’s not just about the talent they bring as footballers. It’s what they bring as people as well because we are going to play football that requires a certain type of personality and character.
“Both those guys have got it in abundance. I could hear it in their voices when I spoke to them. I had a couple of chats with both of them before we signed them and I knew that they were the right types to bring into the dressing room.
“Part of the driver is that if I can see that in them this is their preferred destination for the right reasons, that’s enormous. I could sense with both of those guys that that was the case.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I am so excited to see what Postecoglou can do with the attacking talent Tottenham now have. Maddison, Kane, Kulusevski, Son, Richarlison… there is so much goal potential there.
However, Spurs need to invest heavily in the back line too, otherwise things could get silly in defence.
