Speaking to Football.London, Antonio Conte today discussed Pape Matar Sarr and the decision that must be made for the youngster’s future.

Sarr made his first appearance for Tottenham on Wednesday, replacing Oliver Skipp and playing the second half versus Team K-League in a midfield pivot alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Spurs Official).

The Senegalese midfielder joined Spurs from FC Metz in August 2021 for a fee of £15.21 million, before being loaned back to the Ligue 1 side for the entirety of last season (TransferMarkt).

Still just 19-years-old, Sarr has been tipped for another loan this season by ex-goalkeeper Paul Robinson. The former Spurs stopper told Football Insider: “Send him back out. Players’ careers can be held back. It can be detrimental to keep them in the squad for the sake of it.”

Conte discussed this topic ahead of Spurs’ clash with Sevilla on Saturday. The Italian spoke of his hopes for Sarr’s future and the need for him to be managed correctly.

He said (Football.London): “He’s a young player. Good prospect. Will be the future for Tottenham. We have Sarr and other young players and we will try with the club to take the best decision for them.

“It will be very important to take the best decision about whether to stay at Tottenham or go out on loan and play with regularity.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Although it was only a 45-minute cameo against a team who hadn’t played together regularly, I liked what I saw from Sarr on Wednesday.

He was energetic without the ball and in possession made a number of intelligent forward passes. I would love to see him loaned to a lower Premier League or Championship club in order to gain regular first-team minutes and adapt to English football.
