AC Milan are ready to hold talks with Tottenham Hotspur’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici ‘in the coming days’ over a deal for Pape Matar Sarr, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Thursday’s print edition (04/08/22) of the Italian newspaper has claimed the Serie A giants are turning their attentions elsewhere for a new midfielder after missing out on Lille’s Renato Sanches, who has instead joined Paris Saint-Germain.

The Serie A champions are looking to take the Senegalese international on loan with an option to make the deal permanent come the end of the upcoming campaign.

Matar Sarr has been involved in Antonio Conte’s pre-season plans with the 19-year-old having featured during the club’s pre-season tour of South Korea, along with the 2-1 win against Rangers in Glasgow late last month.

The injuries sustained to Oliver Skipp and Yves Bissouma, along with the impending exit of Harry Winks leaves Tottenham currently short of defensive midfield options which could see Tottenham put the brakes on the prospect of Matar Sarr leaving on loan until at least January.

There’s no doubt that Matar Sarr needs regular first-team football to continue his development, however, current circumstances could see him playing a role from the Tottenham bench in the coming weeks, starting with the visit of Southampton tomorrow afternoon.
