Serie A side Salernitana have made contact with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a potential move for Pape Matar Sarr, according to Italian outlet CalcioMercato.

Sarr joined Tottenham from FC Metz last summer (Sky Sports) but is still yet to make an appearance for the Spurs first team despite sitting on the bench multiple times this season (Transfermarkt).

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan with his former club FC Metz and made 34 appearances (Transfermarkt). The promise he has shown in his career in France has sadly not translated to the English league yet, and Sarr’s future is now in doubt.

It is now believed that Tottenham will allow Sarr to leave the club in January, with a loan move expected for the youngster as Antonio Conte looks to bring in a new central midfielder (Evening Standard).

A report from El Chiringuito TV (22/12/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) claimed Spanish side Sevilla were in contact with Spurs regarding a move for the Senegal international. Now though, it appears the La Liga side will face competition from Italy.

The latest news from CalcioMercato claims Salernitana are working to secure a move for Sarr and have “initiated contacts” to get a deal in place for the combative midfielder.

However, it is believed the “operation is not easy,” with “competition from other clubs” who are circling Sarr and it sounds like an auction for his services is set to “be unleashed” next month.

It is unclear at this time whether the Serie A team would be looking at a permanent move for Sarr or a loan move.

Spurs Web Opinion

I really hope Pape Matar Sarr secures a loan move rather than leaving Spurs permanently. He’s a great young talent who, if nurtured correctly, could be a useful asset for us. He desperately needs first-team experience though, so if he can spend the second half of the season at either Sevilla or Salernitana, that would be ideal.
