The Athletic have reported that Aston Villa have no interest in selling their star goalkeeper, Emi Martinez, amidst recent links to Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Arsenal shot-stopper has certainly done his reputation no harm this winter and could soon be referred to as a World Cup-winner if Messi and co defeat France this weekend.

Dean Jones reported this week (via GiveMeSport) that Tottenham were keeping an eye on Martinez as a potential long-term successor to Hugo Lloris, who coincidentally the Aston Villa man will come up against in the World Cup Final on Sunday.

Martinez has been in inspired form since leaving North London for a more senior role at Aston Villa, while also impressing on the international stage.

However, Spurs would not only have to contend with Villa and whatever potential price tag they put on Martinez’s head, but also the fact he is an ex-Arsenal player, which often complicates matters.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I think Martinez would be a gettable target considering his age – you would think he would jump at the chance to play in the Champions League. I also get the impression there is no love lost between him and Arsenal. But, Villa would ask for a very high fee, and rightly so.
