In fact, the centre-back even left an elbow on his Spurs captain at the start of the game when the goalkeeper came out to collect a ball.

The encounter went to a penalty shootout after finishing 3-3 at the end of extra time as Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe lit up the Lusail Stadium with some magic.

In the end, Lloris was unable to make history by becoming the first captain in history to lift back-to-back World Cups as the Albiceleste emerged winners in the shootout, getting their hands on the trophy after 35 years.

Romero took to social media after the win to state how proud and thankful he is at being Argentine.
