Tottenham assistant head coach, Cristian Stellini, has heaped praise on young Pape Matar Sarr after his recent efforts around Hotspur Way.

Sarr made his Premier League debut for Spurs against Aston Villa last week, coming on for a late cameo after Tottenham were already 2-0 down and struggling. The youngster also appeared in multiple mid-season friendlies, impressing from the start.

The Senegal international was given 25 minutes to impress off the bench against Crystal Palace in Tottenham’s 4-0 win this week, and he certainly did that.

The midfielder not only put himself about and turned over possession multiple times, but he also showed quality and creativity with the ball at his feet, something Spurs have lacked with Rodrigo Bentancur out injured.

When asked about Sarr, Stellini was keen to point out how much talent the 20-year-old has, and how strong his desire to improve is during training sessions.

He said (Football London): “He’s a very young player and it’s the first time he came to England. One year experience in Ligue 1. About the skill he can do everything. Great player with many possibilities and play in many different positions.

“I spoke in the last press conference. The way you have to wait with young players. With Pape, Antonio decided this moment that he’s ready to play. We work a lot on the body position and he showed the desire to improve and this is very important because you can work with them.

“With Pape, it was very easy, but we have a hierarchy and he has to respect that.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

This kid looks the real deal. I would love Spurs to loan him to a Premier League club for the next six months to see what he can do week-in week-out in England. There is only so much he will learn from being fifth choice in the pecking order at Spurs.
