90 min have claimed that Aston Villa are set to challenge Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte.
Laporte has struggled to get game time at the Etihad this season and multiple publications have claimed over the last couple of weeks that Spurs are keeping a close eye on the centre-back (The Times).
According to 90 min’s latest update, the Spain international has decided that he wants to leave Etihad this summer in search of regular first-team football, which is something that Tottenham are said to be willing to offer him.
However, the report adds that the Lilywhites are not the only ones on Laporte’s trail, with Villa already said to have held talks over a potential deal for the City star.
The outlet suggests that Pep Guardiola’s men are expected to demand £40m for the 29-year-old, with the Villans keen to snap him up ahead of their foray into Europe next season.
Spurs Web Opinion
Based on various reports over recent weeks, it does appear as if Spurs and Villa are seemingly competing for many of the same players this summer, including Laporte, Maguire, Torres and Ward-Prowse.
While Villa have qualified for the Conference League, I certainly do not think that would make them a more attractive destination than Tottenham for any of the aforementioned players.
