According to Ouest France, Rennes will be without two key players for this evening’s Europa Conference League clash against Tottenham, including winger Jeremy Doku, who was linked with a move to Spurs during the summer.
Doku impressed in his debut season in Ligue 1 after joining Rennes last summer, registering four goals and eight assists last campaign.
The winger subsequently shone at the European Championships for Belgium, breaking the competition’s record for most successful dribbles in the Red Devils’ 2-1 loss to Belgium (Opta).
Jeunes Footeux reported during the summer that Tottenham and Liverpool were both interested in the pacy winger, who was thought to be valued at £43m.
While Rennes managed to hold on to Doku, it has now been confirmed that they will be missing their star man for their Conference League opener against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.
In addition, Ouest France stated that the Ligue 1 club could be without centre-back Lovro Majer, who is out with a hip injury.
Spurs Web Opinion
Doku not being available is a big boost for Spurs as the 19-year-old would have certainly given Emerson (or Doherty) a hard time.
We need a result to lift morales ahead of the London derby on Sunday. So, I expect Nuno to put out a fairly strong eleven, particularly considering this is likely to be the most challenging match of our group stage.
