Alasdair Gold revealed earlier in the week that sources indicate Brennan Johnson and Eberechi Eze are two names being linked as possible Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg replacements at Tottenham.
The speculation linking Johnson with a move to Tottenham has intensified over the last few days, with The Times stating last night that Spurs are ‘getting closer’ to a deal.
Football Insider even claimed on Saturday that the Wales international had informed his friends that he is keen on a move to the Lilywhites.
A move for Eze looks to be even more complicated for Spurs, with reports over the last few days indicating that the Crystal Palace star is also on Manchester City’s radar, with the Eagles allegedly valuing him at around £70m (Daily Mail).
Tottenham were looking at Eze alongside Johnson
It looks as though Johnson is now the priority, but Gold indicated Eze was also being suggested as a possible Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg midfield replacement if he leaves Spurs.
The journalist stated on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast: “I suppose it would be on the talk with big Ange. I still think money-wise, is that the deal that Spurs would do? Who knows, whether they want to make a late statement because of the Kane stuff. They may well have a go.
“Those are the two that we are constantly hearing within the club and outside the club being linked to maybe replacing Hojbjerg, if he goes to Atletico.”

Hojbjerg doesn’t seem to fit the new system, as he is neither a pivot nor an effective attacking midfielder. That is perhaps why Eze and Johnson were seen as more natural choices to either play out wide or in an attacking midfield role.
