Crystal Palace goalkeeping coach Dean Kiely has revealed that Eberechi Eze was waxing lyrical about James Maddison when he returned from England duty.
It did not come as a surprise when Maddison started for England in their Euro qualifier earlier this month, given the excellent start that the attacking midfielder has had at Tottenham.
Rather surprisingly, that was just the 26-year-old’s fourth cap for the Three Lions, and one would certainly expect him to win a lot more over the coming years if he continues playing as well as he has been.
Eze, who is mooted to be on Tottenham’s radar, has allegedly spoken highly of the attacking midfielder’s impact both on and off the pitch.
It was widely reported during the summer transfer window that the Lilywhites were eyeing a move for the 25-year-old (The Independent) but they ended up signing Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest instead.
Eberechi Eze is a big James Maddison fan
It remains to be seen if Spurs go back in for Eze in January but it turns out that the Palace star is a big fan of Maddison.
Kiely told The Athletic: “I was speaking to Eberechi Eze when he got back from England duty. I asked, ‘How was Madders?’, and he said, ‘Oh mate, what a guy, he’s fun to be around. A real good lad in the group, contributes, makes people laugh. But on the pitch, he’s incredible’.”
Spurs Web Opinion
One can understand why Maddison is very popular in the England and the Spurs dressing room. Despite his extremely competitive nature on the pitch, he comes across as quite an easygoing and happy-go-lucky person off it.
