Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s coach Wayne Burnett has lavished praise on Jamie Donley and admitted that the youngster has all the attributes to develop into a top player.
Donley has undoubtedly been the standout player for Tottenham’s Under-21s this season, having scored five goals and provided seven assists so far in all competitions.
The teenager was once again the star of the show in the club’s 4-2 win over Chelsea in Premier League 2 on Monday, netting a second-half brace.
The forward’s talent has seemingly not gone unnoticed by Ange Posteoclgou and his coaching staff as he was pictured training with the first team and was even named on the bench in the club’s 2-1 win over Liverpool.
Alasdair Gold said in a Q&A on Football.london last week that Donley was dropping deep and evolving into more of a creator this season and admitted that he would love to see the youngster get some opportunities for the senior side.
Could Jamie Donley be the next Spurs academy gem?
Burnett is no doubt about the attacker’s capability, stating that he was proud to see him being named on the bench against the Reds.
The Spurs Under-21s coach told the official website about Donley: “He’s got that ability, he’s got that vision, I thought he was very good again tonight. He was on the bench for the first team on Saturday, we’re all very, very, very proud of him, everyone who’s played a part in his development.
“Everyone’s so proud that one of our academy graduates gets near our first team as that’s important to us, really, really important to us. It’s important that the players are aware of that as well.
“His energy, his enthusiasm, his ability, if you have those things you’ve got an opportunity to perform well. He’s done that again tonight and he’s scored another couple of goals.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not see Donley making his senior debut anytime soon, given that we have no European football and are out of the Carabao Cup.
However, if he continues playing as well as he is for the Under-21s, Spurs might have to seriously consider loaning him out to a League One side or a Championship club in January.
