Sport have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could face competition from Barcelona for Sporting Lisbon midfielder, Manuel Ugarte, in the summer.
Tottenham secured the services of Pedro Porro from Sporting in January and it has been suggested over recent months that the North London club also have their eye on another of the Portuguese club’s starlets in Ugarte.
A Bola reported previously that the Lilywhites had been impressed with the 21-year-old’s solid displays this season and are closely monitoring his development.
Record revealed just a few days ago that, amidst interest from the likes of Spurs, the midfielder had turned down a new contract offered by Sporting.
Sport are the latest publication to now report on Tottenham’s interest in Ugarte, stating that Antonio Conte’s men have ‘asked about’ the player recently.
The report explains Spurs are not the only club to express interest in the Uruguayan, with Wolves said to view him as an ideal replacement for Ruben Neves if the Portuguese midfielder leaves.
The publication adds that Barca are also ready to explore a move for the Sporting star if Sergio Busquets decides that this will be his final season at the Catalan club.

As reported by Record earlier this week, Ugarte has a €60m (£53m) release clause in his contract.
That would make negotiations a lot easier for Spurs as I do not imagine Daniel Levy will particularly relish the prospect of entering into talks with Sporting after the way they conducted themselves during the Porro negotiations.
