Harry Kane has admitted that the decision to leave Tottenham Hotspur was not an easy one, but one that had to be made as he needed to play at the highest level.
Even though it had seemed that Kane’s exit was always on the cards this summer, the official news of his departure still hit the Tottenham fan base quite hard.
Some supporters are angry with the club’s hierarchy and Daniel Levy, in particular, for not doing more to keep Tottenham competitive, and thus forcing the club’s greatest player of the modern era to walk away.
On making the switch to Bavaria, Kane sent a touching message to Spurs fans, thanking them for their support over the years, and hinting at a potential reunion in the future by stating that it was not a goodbye.
Harry Kane leaves Spurs with a heavy heart
The striker has now said that the decision to leave his boyhood club was not an easy one but added that he felt that the time was right to do so.
Kane said in his first press conference as a Bayern player (via Jonathan Veal): “It is always going to be a tough decision, I was at Tottenham for 19 years of my life, everyone knows the connection that club has with my heart.
“I just felt like the time was right, I needed to be playing at the highest level, in the Champions League.”
There were seemingly a lot of twists and turns in the final 48 hours before the move was made official, and the 30-year-old remarked that he was relieved that it finally got over the line.
He added: “This is my first transfer that have been involved in, it was an up-and-down experience. I wish Tottenham all the best, I wish Daniel Levy all the best but my focus is here now and I am just happy we managed to do it.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Kane evidently learned from the mistakes he made a couple of years ago and conducted himself with dignity throughout the summer. The 30-year-old fully deserves to be playing at the highest level and I will be rooting for him to win the Champions League with Bayern this season.
