According to The Daily Mirror, Tottenham continue to eye a move for Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte.
Tottenham are seemingly on the verge of strengthening at centre-back, with Micky van de Ven expected to arrive from Wolfsburg shortly (Fabrizio Romano).
However, Ange Postecoglou confirmed on Sunday that the Dutchman will not be Spurs’ only defensive addition this summer, admitting that the club are keen on signing a ‘couple’ of centre-backs (Football.London).
Laporte is still on Tottenham’s radar
If The Mirror’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs are continuing to keep an eye on Laporte, who Manchester City are now ready to offload following their capture of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig.
The report explains that Spurs have been keeping an eye on the 29-year-old’s situation since last season but it is asserted that the Lilywhites face competition from Arsenal and Aston Villa for the centre-back.
The outlet adds that City value Laporte at £30m but the Premier League champions would prefer to sell the Spain international to a foreign club.
Spurs Web Opinion
I suspect Tottenham abandoned their pursuit of Laporte early in the transfer window and chose to pursue Van de Ven instead.
With Lenglet also likely to arrive through the door, and with Postecoglou also showing a willingness to use Ben Davies at centre-back if necessary, the club will likely pursue a right-sided central defender like Tosin Adarabioyo rather than another left-footer.
