According to a report in the Sun, Manchester United are set to rival Tottenham for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The Championship club are said to have rejected a £27million bid from Tottenham for Phillips in the summer as Marcelo Bielsa was insistent that he stayed (Sun).
Leeds then tied down the 23-year-old to a new long term contract in a bid to fend off interest from Spurs. However, the report claims that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Phillips as a target as he attempts to rebuild the Manchester United team.
Both Old Trafford number two Mike Phelan and coach Kieran McKenna are said to have personally scouted the midfielder in recent weeks as they consider making an offer for him.
While it is claimed that Leeds won’t entertain the prospect of losing Phillips in January, his future will reportedly be decided based on whether on not the club achieves promotion to the Premier League.
Spurs Web Opinion
If it is true that Spurs bid for Phillips in the summer, then that suggests that Pochettino is a fan. However, I believe there are other positions like centre back and full back that should take priority in the next couple of transfer windows. We seemed to have quite a few good options in midfield at the moment and hopefully, Giovani Lo Celso will also get to speed and compete for a place in the side.
