The Daily Mirror claims that Tottenham Hotspur are considering a potential move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who has enjoyed an impressive start to the season.
Phillips was one of Leeds’ best performers during their promotion push over the last two years and seems to have carried that form into the Premier League.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have won several admirers with the start they have made to the campaign and Phillips has been one of their standout performers so far.
The 24-year-old’s form has seen him play his way into the England side and he has seemingly been ahead of Harry Winks in Gareth Southgate’s recent pecking order.
The Mirror claims that Jose Mourinho has been impressed with the midfielder’s rise over recent years and that Tottenham are following him closely.
It is revealed that Liverpool are also eyeing a potential move for the Leeds man, who is said to be valued at around £50m.
Phillips’ current deal at Elland Road runs till 2024 but it is asserted that Spurs would be prepared to pay him more than double the £30,000-a-week salary he is currently earning.
Spurs Web Opinion
Neither Winks nor Sissoko seem to be the long term answer for our issues in midfield. Phillips would be an upgrade over both of those players and his passing ability would add something different to our midfield. However, from what I have seen of him so far, there are still question marks around his ability to play in tight spaces and he does seem prone to giving the ball away. £50m is an extremely steep asking price for someone who is not proven at the top level and it is not a fee that I can see Spurs paying.
