Carlton Palmer has claimed that Kalvin Phillips would not be able to resist a potential move to Tottenham this summer if the North Londoners came calling.

Phillips was not a name that many fans would have had in their England starting eleven before the Euros but he seems to have established himself as a vital part of Gareth Southgate’s set-up.

Even though Jordan Henderson is now fit, it would not be a surprise to see the Leeds man once again partner Declan Rice in midfield against the Germans given how well he did in the group stages.

It was reported last week that Phillips’ performances had caught the eye of several clubs including Spurs, who were contemplating an offer for the 25-year-old.

Despite the fact that Tottenham endured a disappointing season last time out, Palmer believes that the decision would be a straightforward one for the England star if Spurs came calling.

The former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder told This is Futbol: “If Tottenham come knocking, no disrespect to Leeds United, I think Leeds United are a massive club. I’m a big admirer of Leeds United.

“But if you’ve got an opportunity to go and play at Spurs, you’re going to want to leave Leeds to go and play at Spurs.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is not a question of whether we would be able to attract Phillips but rather who we would be competing with for his signature. If he continues in the same vein at the Euros, there will probably be plenty of clubs queuing up for his signature, which would significantly diminish the chances of us getting him.
