Tottenham forward Lucas Moura has been in impressive form in recent weeks. The Brazilian has netted 15 goals in all competitions in his first full season with Tottenham.
His second half hat-trick against Ajax helped Spurs mount an unbelievable come back to book a place in the Champions League Final at the expense of the Dutch giants.
While Ajax’s young guns have done brilliantly in the competition, their team is likely to be ripped apart in the summer as their star players seem to have attracted the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs.
In a bid to remain competitive, it looks like the Amsterdam based club are trying to reinvest the money to bring in other talented players.
According to reports in AD one of the players Ajax wish to add to their squad is 21-year-old winger Steven Bergwijn who plays for Ajax’s rivals PSV.
However, PSV are in no mood to let Bergwijn, who has scored 14 goals and registered 12 assists in the Eredivisie this season, join their rivals.
PSV’s technical director has issued a rather strange threat in an effort to keep Ajax’s hands off their star player – he has threatened to bring Lucas Moura to the Eredivisie.
The club’s technical director John de Jong has told Dutch media outlet De Speld, “It’s very simple: if Ajax takes Steven away from us, we will offer Tottenham our entire budget to sign Moura if necessary.”
Spurs Web Opinion
As far as threats go this one has to take the cake for being the weirdest. No matter what money PSV offer, it is unlikely that they are going to tempt Spurs to part way with Lucas Moura.
Perhaps Spurs themselves ought to be looking at Bergwijn, whose value is only going to increase in the coming years irrespective of whether he stays at PSV or not.
