Journalist Dean Jones has suggested that Manchester City star Aymeric Laporte could turn down Tottenham’s approach in favour of a move abroad this summer.

Laporte has fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola at Man City, with the centre-back having made just seven league appearances this season (Transfermarkt).

90 min reported last week that the centre-back is keen on playing regular football elsewhere and is thus expected to push for a move away from the Etihad Stadium.

The report added that the reigning Premier League champions would be willing to facilitate a summer transfer for the Spain international, with Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain alleged to have expressed interest in the player.

Jones believes that Laporte, who has little over two years left to run in his contract with City (Transfermarkt), will part ways with Guardiola’s men this summer.

However, the journalist expressed serious doubts regarding whether the 28-year-old would be open to a switch to Spurs, suggesting that he is likely to move abroad instead.

When asked about Laporte, Jones told GiveMeSport: “We’ve reported before that Laporte is likely to be one of the exits if they’re going to happen.

“I would question whether he would go to Tottenham.

“I’m not sure that that’s the sort of move Laporte has on his agenda if he’s going to actually look to leave Manchester City.

“From everything I’ve heard, he would be looking to move abroad and wouldn’t actually be looking to stay in the Premier League.

“So I’m not so sure about Tottenham as a landing spot.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that we look set to miss out on Champions League qualification, it will be extremely difficult to convince players of the calibre of Laporte and Maddison to join the club in the summer.

The only way that would change is if we somehow manage to appoint a world-class head coach like Nagelsmann.
