Football Insider have reported that the Manchester City chiefs privately admit they made a blunder by signing Jack Grealish last summer instead of Harry Kane.
City snapped up Grealish in a £100m deal from Aston Villa – a British-record transfer fee (ESPN).
Pep Guardiola’s side continued pursuing Kane late into the window but they were not able to prise the striker away from North London (Sky Sports).
According to Football Insider, City’s top brass now believe they would have been better off signing Kane over Grealish.
It is said they now wish they had bid higher for the Tottenham striker and driven the deal over the line instead of spending big money on Grealish first.
It is asserted that while Guardiola and his coaching staff are in no doubt about Grealish’s talent, they feel he has struggled to fit into their style of play.
The report adds that City no longer see a deal for Kane as a priority and are assessing other centre-forward targets for the summer.

Despite City’s signing of Julian Alvarez, I still would not be surprised if they made one last attempt to snap up Kane next summer.
The striker will have only two years left to run on his contract at the end of the season and Guardiola’s men might believe they can tempt Spurs into selling.
