Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Younes Kaboul had high praise for his old teammate Dimitar Berbatov when speaking on the Official Tottenham Hotspur Podcast.

Spurs signed the Bulgaria international in the summer of 2006 from Bayer Leverkusen for £10.9 million and spent two successful years at the North London side.

Over the course of the two seasons, Berbatov made 102 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham, scoring 46 goals and providing 29 assists, and won the EFL Cup at the North London side in 2008 (TransferMarkt).

The Bulgarian was part of the Spurs team that last won a trophy back in 2008, with the likes of Hugo Lloris, Luka Modric, Jan Vertonghen, Gareth Bale, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min all failing to lift a piece of silverware with the Lilywhites since that time.

Where does Berbatov rank in all-time Spurs players?

After Berbatov’s successful stint at Tottenham, Manchester United came calling and Sir Alex Ferguson signed the striker in the summer of 2008, where the former Spurs forward lifted multiple trophies, including two Premier League titles.

Kaboul was part of the team that won the EFL Cup final against Chelsea in 2008 and when asked who the North London side’s greatest-ever player was, the French centre-back stated:

“Ever? I don’t want to give a player from back in the day. I know they’re legends, Paul Gascoigne, Glenn Hoddle, but I haven’t watched them. I would say Berba. Berba was special. On the top of my head now, I would say Berba.”

While Berbatov is arguably one of the most talented players Tottenham have had on their books, the striker’s time at the club was short-lived and he then joined Spurs’ PL rivals Man United.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite not winning a trophy, Harry Kane, who became Tottenham’s all-time goalscorer after breaking Jimmy Greaves’ record recently, could arguably be considered the greatest Spurs player.

However, the likes of Glenn Hoddle and Paul Gascoigne, who brought the North London side’s fans joy in yesteryears, are also in the conversation.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes Tottenham Hotspur did a brilliant job signing James Maddison in the summer transfer window.

Spurs bought the England international for £40 million this summer from Leicester City, who were relegated from the Premier League after finishing 18th in the table last time out.

Despite Leicester’s struggles last season, Maddison was one of the standout players for the Foxes, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists in the English top flight (TransferMarkt).

Therefore, it was not a surprise to see Tottenham pursuing the 26-year-old’s signature and the North London side arguably got one of the bargains of the recent transfer windows.

Maddison has seamlessly integrated into Ange Postecoglou’s plans with the Lilywhites and has become one of Spurs’ talismans alongside Son Heung-min in the current campaign.

Ray Parlour sings the praises of James Maddison

The England international has done so well that even an ex-Arsenal player who spent 12 years with the Gunners has had to set aside the rivalry with Tottenham, and when asked who the best signing of the summer, Parlour told Mighty Tips:

“For me, and I’m going by the money as well, for what they paid for him, one is certainly James Maddison.

“I think Spurs have got a real gem on their hands now, I’m really pleased he’s back in the England squad.

“I like players like him because he’s not always strait-laced, some people are ticking the boxes now, but I want to see flair players and players doing something different, so I think James Maddison will really be a big star at Tottenham, I certainly believe that.”

Tottenham had not been at their best in recent campaigns under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, who set up the team to play defensively rather than on the front foot.

However, Postecoglou, who had to drastically change the North London side’s tactics after Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich, has flipped the culture at Spurs and now has the North London side playing free-flowing, attacking football.

Spurs Web Opinion

Maddison’s impact at the club has been almost imminent, becoming one of the fan favourites at Tottenham in a short span of time.

Considering the money spent on players like Moises Caicedo, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount this summer, Spurs have seemingly underpaid for the former Leicester star.

Former defender Stephen Warnock was full of praise for Destiny Udogie following Tottenham Hotspurs win over Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.

Warnock was on Sky Sports News’ The Football Show and was surprised by the former Udinese full-back’s performance against the Reds, which was an entertaining watch.

Liverpool were handed two red cards throughout the match, with Curtis Jones being sent off in the first half for his challenge on Yves Bissouma and Diogo Jota for his back-to-back fouls on Udogie in the second half.

Jurgen Klopp’s team were also denied the opening goal of the game after a controversial VAR call, and subsequently, in the 36th minute, Son Heung-min gave the North London side the lead.

But the Reds fought hard and clawed their way back into the fixture with Cody Gakpo equalising just before the break.

But with nine men, Liverpool were forced to play with a back five and three in the midfield. In the end, it was Joel Matip’s own goal that gave the Lilywhites the victory.

Udogie was an incredible find for Tottenham

Like many, Warnock, who has played for the likes of Liverpool, Aston Villa and Derby County, has been impressed by Udogie. Speaking about the 20-year-old, he said: “But Udogie as well, Udogie my word, what a find he is as well.

“I mean the energy, I’m not surprised he came off. I was watching him thinking he cannot continue to make these runs, he was playing centre forward, half the game.

“And I’m thinking, you’re a left back, I mean I’m going to have to go get my boots back on. They’ve got him playing a great style of football.”

Udogie was a constant threat down the left-hand side and his unpredictable movement in the final third, either inside or out wide, gave Joe Gomez a run for his money.

The Italian has been brilliant since joining Tottenham this summer after spending last season on loan at Udinese and has taken almost no time to settle into Ange Postecoglou’s system.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham have lacked quality at left-back since the departure of Danny Rose and have seen the likes of Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon try their best to fill the void. However, it finally looks like the North London side have a potential superstar on their hands in Udogie.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson could be called up to represent Wales in the upcoming international break despite being on the sidelines at the moment due to a hamstring injury, as per Alasdair Gold.

Spurs signed the 22-year-old from Nottingham Forest for £47.5 million in the summer transfer window on deadline day, but the North London side have not seen the full extent of his talent yet.

While the likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie, who are playing their debut seasons with the Lilywhites, have taken almost no time to cement their place in Ange Postecoglou’s plans, Johnson has not had adequate opportunities or game time yet.

The Wales international has only made two appearances so far for the North London side and picked up a hamstring injury in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Could it be Spurs vs Wales in Johnson tug of war?

However, speaking on his podcast, Gold feels Johnson might have a decision to make in the coming days as Wales could opt to call him up for the Euro Qualifiers this month.

Gold said: “[Brennan] Johnson, I wonder if they’re going to have a bit of a club vs. country thing here because they’ve got to really decide whether they want him back in time.

“He had a hamstring strain and it’s whether he’s back in time to play this game [against Luton] and if he’s not, Wales have got a couple of big games haven’t they coming up?

“So, they’re really going to want him involved when the best probable thing for him would be to rest up and not have any potential hamstring issues.”

Wales only have one competitive fixture against Croatia and a loss could be detrimental for them in their quest to qualify for the Euros in Germany next year. Rob Page’s team will also take on Gibraltar in a friendly.

Tottenham will take on Luton Town this weekend before returning to action on 23 October against Fulham. Whether Johnson will be fit enough to play for Spurs before the international break remains to be seen.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Ange Postecoglou has Son Heung-min firing, the Liverpool game showcased that the team needed more quality up front when the South Korean was substituted. Therefore, Ange Postecoglou will seemingly hope that Johnson will be excluded from the Wales squad to rest and recuperate.

Micky van de Ven has revealed that he watched videos of former Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen to develop into a better defender.

Speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Van de Ven was asked about Vertonghen and claimed that the Belgian was one of his inspirations growing up.

“I was always in the stadium with my Dad when Ajax were playing. We went to every game and Jan was always playing. He was a left-footed centre-back. I’m a left-footed centre-back.

“I always looked up to him and saw his qualities on the pitch. Afterwards, I watched some videos of him and that helped me a lot.”

Tottenham signed Vertonghen in the summer of 2012 from Ajax for £9.5 million and he went on to spend eight years at the North London side.

Vertonghen was a constant fixture in Tottenham’s backline for a number of years and formed a formidable partnership with Toby Alderweireld, which led Spurs to the Champions League final in 2019.

After making a mark at Tottenham, the centre-back left the North London side for Benfica in 2020 and now, at the ripe age of 36, the defender is still plying his trade at Anderlecht.

Is Micky van de Ven Tottenham’s next Vertonghen?

Since Vertonghen’s departure, Spurs have arguably struggled to find an adequate replacement for him in the backline, considering the Lilywhites’ underwhelming defensive record under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

However, it looks like Van de Ven, signed from Wolfsburg this summer, could be the solution to Tottenham’s woes and the 22-year-old has started his stint at the North London club on the front foot.

Since his arrival this summer, Ange Postecoglou has managed to drastically turn things around at Tottenham, and part of that has been down to the superb partnership between Van de Ven and Romero.

Spurs Web Opinion

After years of watching the likes of Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez and Clement Lenglet struggle in Tottenham’s backline, Van de Ven’s arrival and subsequent chemistry with Romero is an encouraging sign for Spurs’ future.

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison is becoming one of his favourite players in the Premier League.

Writing in his column on The Telegraph, Carragher could not help but rave about the former Leicester City star and likened the 26-year-old to two Spurs legends.

“James Maddison is rapidly becoming one of my favourite Premier League footballers; he plays and speaks like he is from a bygone era.

“Maddison looks like the prototype Spurs player, following in the traditions of Paul Gascoigne and Glenn Hoddle – an individual who puts a smile on supporters’ faces.”

That is high praise indeed for Maddison from Carragher, and rightfully so, considering the England international’s start to life at the Lilywhites.

Is James Maddison the next Hoddle or Gascoigne?

Gascoigne and Hoddle, who spent several years at Tottenham, were considered the most creative and exciting talents of their generations, mesmerising crowds with their performances.

Maddison seems to have brought that sense of anticipation back to the North London side, who have missed a spark in the middle of the park since Christian Eriksen’s departure in January 2020.

Tottenham signed Maddison this summer from Leicester City for £40 million, and looking back on it, it seems like the Lilywhites got themselves a bargain.

Spurs sold Harry Kane to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window and there was concern around the North London club for the 2023/24 campaign without the influence and contribution of their record goalscorer.

Ange Postecoglou had a big task on his hands, but the Australian manager has showcased his tactical nous, bringing the best out of Tottenham’s attack, who have been playing free-flowing football.

Maddison and Son Heung-min have been the main protagonists for Spurs’ success so far and the former Leicester star looks to have formed a great partnership and understanding with the South Korea international.

Spurs Web Opinion

Not only Carragher, but Maddison has also enamoured many Tottenham fans with his evident quality and passion for the North London side. Hopefully, Spurs’ number 10 will continue his purple patch for years and help the North London side break their trophy drought.

Gary Neville feels Ange Postecoglou should have changed his tactics towards the end of the game between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool on Saturday and instructed his full-backs to stay wide.

Tottenham struggled to break down Liverpool’s defence after Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota had been sent off, with Klopp playing five at the back and three in midfield, with no apparent attacker.

The Reds looked like they were holding on for a point and almost successfully managed to do so until the 96th minute when Pedro Porro’s cross was turned home by Joel Matip.

Between Jota’s red card and Matip’s own goal, Tottenham found it challenging to make the most of the two-man advantage, with Udogie, Ben Davies, Manor Solomon and Dejan Kulusevski all having difficulties getting past Liverpool’s defence on the wings.

Liverpool got off to a fast start in the fixture and dominated the proceedings initially, but Jones’ sending-off seemed to give Spurs the impetus to go forward and create chances, which resulted in Son Heung-min’s goal in the 36th minute.

However, a lapse in the North London side’s concentration led to them conceding late on in stoppage time in the first half as Cody Gakpo found the back of the net.

Did Postecoglou make the right choices?

Speaking on his Sky Sports Premier League podcast on YouTube, the Manchester United legend said he wanted to see the Spurs wide players stretch the Reds, who were down to nine men, instead of cutting inside so often.

Neville said: “The fullbacks, I would have said go to a more traditional system. Don’t go in there looking to actually play. Go wide with your wingers and really stretch that midfield.

“So Liverpool have a five and they have a three, so the two in there in this case, Udogie and Porro, you stretch yourself wide so you’ve got two on each side.

“What you’re doing then is stretching the pitch to its maximum. That’s what we used to do. For me, they weren’t working those positions hard enough.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Klopp’s tactics towards the end of the game stifled Tottenham for a long period and at one point, it looked like the curse of not being able to beat Liverpool at home would continue. However, in the end, Posteoglou and the team, not in the most attractive fashion, managed to get the job done.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou was frustrated by Yves Bissouma at one point during the win against Liverpool on Saturday.

Tottenham welcomed the Reds to North London on Saturday in the Premier League, having been unable to win at home against the Merseyside outfit in the last six outings.

Liverpool started strong and were on the front foot in the opening minutes of the match; however, Curtis Jones’ red card shifted the momentum, although Luis Diaz’s goal was then wrongfully ruled offside after a misunderstanding between the referees and the VAR.

Subsequently, Tottenham took the lead in the 36th minute after James Maddison played Richarlison in behind the Reds’ defence who set up Son Heung-min for a tap-in.

However, the Merseyside outfit showed resilience and got an equaliser just before the break as Cody Gakpo beat Guglielmo Vicario in goal with a ferocious shot.

The second half saw both teams going for the win, with Liverpool playing effectively on the counter before another one of their players, Diogo Jota, was sent off for a second yellow after a foul on Destiny Udogie.

Klopp shifted his tactics from that point and set up his team for a draw, with five at the back and three in the midfield, which made it difficult for the Lilywhites to create a clear-cut opportunity.

However, Tottenham did not give up until the end and it was Joel Matip’s own goal in the 96th minute that handed the North London side the three points.

Postecoglou has high standards for progressive play

A report from the Independent states that at one point in the game, the Australian manager got frustrated with the midfielder’s actions on the ball against a robust Liverpool defence.

Postecoglou at one point reacted as if Bissouma missed a sitter when the midfielder merely hesitated on the ball and played a sideways pass.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Bissouma is more of a defensive player and was once again his calm and composed self in the victory over Liverpool, but it is understandable that Postecoglou wanted more from the 27-year-old Mali international, considering the circumstances of the moment.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier does not feature in the plans of head coach Ange Postecoglou despite his inclusion in the squad for the last few fixtures, according to Football Insider.

The England international has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of the Australian manager, who has relied on Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven as his preferred options in the backline.

As a result, Dier, a regular starter for Tottenham over the last few years, has found game time hard to come by and has yet to play a single minute under Postecoglou.

Spurs signed Dier in the summer of 2015 from Sporting CP and he was a key player for Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte during their stints in the North London side’s dugout.

The 29-year-old has been Tottenham’s leader in defence in recent seasons and made 42 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites in the previous campaign (TransferMarkt).

Dier is not in Postecoglou’s plans despite bench role

However, as per the report, it looks like Spurs no longer value Dier and were open to selling the centre-back this summer, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season.

One of Postecoglou’s first signings as a Tottenham manager was Van de Ven, who the North London side bought for £43 million from Wolfsburg in the summer transfer window.

The Netherlands international has been partnered with 2022 World Cup winner Romero for the most part and it looks like they will be the Australian manager’s go-to pairing for the foreseeable future.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Dier has left a lot to be desired with his performances over the years, Tottenham lack depth in the centre-back positions at the moment, with Clement Lenglet, Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez no longer at the club.

Therefore, while the former Sporting CP star has not been good enough at Spurs for some time, the North London side still need numbers at the back and the Englishman’s experience could prove vital as the season progresses.

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale expressed his aspirations of becoming a professional golfer during his loan spell at the North London side.

Speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, journalist Dan Kilpatrick revealed that Bale talked about his desire to take on golfing full-time, with his footballing career on the decline at that time.

“I remember when Bale was at Spurs, he was sort of harbouring ambitions and he was telling people that he wanted to have a crack at being a pro golfer. I remember hearing that and thinking I was onto the story of a lifetime, but it hasn’t quite worked out.”

Tottenham signed Bale from Southampton in the summer of 2007 and initially played as a left-back for the North London side. However, the Welshman’s attacking nous was evident for everyone to see and he soon transitioned into a deadly winger.

Subsequently, after posting impressive numbers in the Premier League, Real Madrid came calling in the summer of 2013 and signed Bale for over £85 million.

Gareth Bale had his eye on a career in pro golf

Unfortunately, despite winning five Champions League titles with the La Liga giants, the 34-year-old never truly seemed to convince the public in the Spanish capital and was criticised by some for focusing on golf more than Madrid, which gave birth to the now-famous ‘Wales. Golf. Madrid.‘ flag.

Nevertheless, Bale will go down in history as one of the best players to have played for the Lilywhites, scoring 72 goals and providing 58 assists in 237 appearances in all competitions for Spurs during his playing career (TransferMarkt).

In 2022, Bale had one last hurrah with Los Angeles in the MLS before hanging up his boots. Since then, the former Tottenham star has been involved in the golf world and recently won a Ryder Cup celebrity all-star game in Rome.

Spurs Web Opinion

Football and golf are two entirely different sports and while Bale has thrived with the ball at his feet, it is no guarantee that the 34-year-old will be able to find the same success with his golf clubs.

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Dimitar Berbatov has predicted the North London side will get the win over Liverpool when the two teams face each other on Saturday in the Premier League.

Speaking to BetFair, Berbatov, who spent two years at Tottenham before moving to Manchester United, believes Spurs have the tools to get the three points at home versus Jurgen Klopp’s team.

He said: “Spurs need to take chances and not let their guard down when or if they concede. I think they can get it done. Prediction 2-1.”

Berbatov thinks that Tottenham, who have been unable to win over Liverpool at home in the last six league fixtures, will finally be able to get one over the Merseyside outfit.

Berbatov is predicting a Tottenham Hotspur win

Coming into the fixture, both teams are on a good run, with Liverpool on a seven-game winning run in all competitions, scoring three goals in each of their last five matches.

As for Tottenham, while they have dropped a few points in the league, the Lilywhites are still unbeaten under Ange Postecoglou and have shown resilience in the last few games.

Spurs came from behind in the final minutes to get all three points against Sheffield United and equalised twice at the Emirates Stadium as the fixture ended in a 2-2 draw.

Son Heung-min and James Maddison have formed an impressive partnership up front for Tottenham and have not let the North London side feel the effects of Harry Kane’s departure so far.

However, Spurs have looked fragile at the back with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven struggling to keep clean sheets despite playing very well.

Spurs Web Opinion

Liverpool seem to be finding their groove once again under Klopp, but they are arguably not as effective as they were in previous seasons, having lost a ton of experience from their team this summer.

Tottenham have moved away from the defensive style synonymous with the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, and Postecoglou has shown that he has the nous to go toe-to-toe with the top managers in the league.

Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson has quipped that he might take note from Bukayo Saka and copy James Maddison’s celebration if he were to score against Spurs.

Speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast, Wilson joked that he would make copying the former Leicester City star’s dart-throwing celebration a thing to wind him up after the attacking midfielder snubbed Newcastle in the summer for Tottenham.

“For banter, I might actually do his celebration as I know him and I might make it a running thing that if you score against Tottenham you have to do Madders’ celebration. It’ll wind him up for sure.

“Especially as he had Newcastle and Tottenham to the side and he chose them. Those assists he could have been doing up here! It might not have been me as I’ve been on the bench for a while but for Alex! I might do his darts celebration but we will have to keep it on the down low!”

People are trying to wind Maddison up at Spurs

At the Emirates Stadium last weekend, Arsenal opened the scoring after Saka’s shot took a massive deflection off of Cristian Romero and beat Guglielmo Vicario between the sticks. The England international proceeded to mimic Maddison’s darts celebration.

However, just before the break, Son Heing-min managed to equalise after being set up by the former Leicester star and the two teams went into the break level.

Saka was given another opportunity to find the back of the net after Romero was deemed to have handled the ball in the box and the Arsenal star did not falter from the spot, copying Maddison’s celebration once again.

But Saka’s delight was short-lived as an error from Jorginho led to Tottenham making it 2-2 and it was Spurs’ number 10 who was once again on hand to provide the assist to Son.

Tottenham will face Newcastle United on 9 December in the Premier League at home, with the away fixture scheduled for 13 April next year.

Spurs Web Opinion

Maddion’s start to life at Tottenham has been electric and the 26-year-old has become one of the key players for Spurs under Ange Postecoglou.

With top players looking to copy the England international’s celebration, it shows that the midfielder has caught a lot of people’s attention and long may that continue.

Tottenham Hotspur club ambassador Ledley King has revealed that Japhet Tanganga was someone who impressed him during the ex-defender’s stint as assistant coach at Spurs.

King was part of Jose Mourinho’s backroom staff at Tottenham and speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast on YouTube, he revealed that Tanaganga was someone who caught his eye at the time.

“There was a lot of good players at the club. Japhet Tanganga during that period of time started to come through. We started to do quite a bit of work with him, extra work.

“I was showing Jose some of his clips from the under-21s, under-23s. And I felt that he had some good habits as a defender we could work on. And he got his break during that period of time.”

Eventually, it seems like Mourinho was convinced of Tanganga’s talent, with the Portuguese manager handing the 24-year-old his Premier League debut in the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in January 2020.

While Mourinho did not remain at the helm for long in N17, Tanganga managed to make a place for himself in the team with the arrival of subsequent managers like Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

Is Japhet Tanganga’s Tottenham career over?

The England U21 international’s versatility saw him being deployed as a right-back and centre-back on a number of occasions; unfortunately, constant injuries hampered Tanganga’s development and game time.

Tanganga showcased immense potential, but for whatever reason, he has been unable to fulfil that promise in North London. The defender sealed a much-needed loan move to Augsburg in the summer transfer window.

The Bundesliga is known to bring the best out of young players, and hopefully, Tanganga will be able to get back on track during his time in Germany.

For now, Spurs can rely on Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in their backline, with the Premier League and FA Cup the only competitions Tottenham have to focus on.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is no mean feat to impress someone like King, and all is not lost for Tanganga at Tottenham, despite Augsburg’s conditional obligation to buy the defender next summer, as per the Daily Mail.

If Tanganga can revive his career in the Bundesliga and find consistency, a return to the Lilywhites could seemingly be on the cards for the centre-back in the future.

Gary Neville has predicted that the fixture between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool will end in a draw when the Merseyside outfit visit North London this Saturday.

Before the start of the season, there was a lot of pessimism around Tottenham with a new manager and the departure of record goalscorer Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

However, the extent to which Ange Postecoglou has managed to turn things around at the North London club is mightily impressive, with Spurs sitting fourth in the Premier League table after six matches.

What will the score be for Spurs vs Liverpool?

The Lilywhites have managed to beat Manchester United, show resilience with two late goals against Sheffield United and go toe-to-toe with title challengers Arsenal in recent weeks.

It would now be remiss of people to discount Tottenham from the top four conversation and the Liverpool game will be another important test for Postecoglou and his team.

Tottenham’s last win over Liverpool at home was in the 2017/18 season, a 4-1 victory. However, since then, the Lilywhites have not been able to beat Jurgen Klopp’s team in N17 for the last six matches.

Most fans will be optimistic about that changing at the weekend, with Postecoglou bringing attacking and exciting football back to the North London side and Son Heung-min firing on all cylinders.

Speaking on The Overlap, Gary Neville was asked to predict the score for Spurs versus Liverpool and he went for a 1-1 draw.

Spurs Web Opinion

Liverpool have seen a massive overhaul in the midfield, losing the experience of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in the summer. While Klopp has managed to make his team play better than last season, they are still arguably nowhere near their best.

As for Tottenham, Spurs are on a good run and the positivity looks to be back at Hotspur Way under the Australian head coach. With the home crowd on their side, it feels like the perfect time to take on the Reds and show the world the progress they have made.

Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a move to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire when the transfer window reopens in January, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

The arrival of Ange Postecoglou to Spurs has seen somewhat of a changing of the guard across the backline, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven the new first-choice partnership.

This summer, the North London side saw an overhaul in their defence with the departures of Clement Lenglet, who was on loan from Barcelona last season, Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez.

Eric Dier has also found himself drifting down the pecking order since the arrival of Postecoglou, with the Australian manager seemingly not fancying the England international.

As a result, Tottenham look light in the centre-back area, with Van de Ven and Ashley Phillips the only two additions made in the transfer window despite multiple exits.

Is Harry Maguire the solution to Spurs defence?

Maguire signed for United in the summer of 2019 from Leicester City for £80m million after catching a lot of people’s attention with his displays for the Foxes as well as with the Three Lions in the 2018 World Cup.

However, things have unravelled for the 30-year-old over the last few years at the Red Devils, with the centre-back losing his place in the team as well as the captaincy at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag clearly does not have faith in Maguire to start week-in week-out for United and the Dutch manager has instead often relied on Victor Lindelof to play as the backup when Raphael Varane or Lisandro Martinez are unavailable.

Spurs Web Opinion

Considering Romero’s consistent fitness issues at Tottenham, it would be wise for us to add reinforcements in defence. However, it does not seem wise to count on a player like Maguire, who has been poor for United in recent months.
