Italian journalist Lorenzo Petiziol has suggested that Destiny Udogie’s head might already be at Tottenham, which could be why the left wing-back is not performing as well as he can for Udinese.
Udogie has come on leaps and bounds since establishing himself as a regular in the Udinese side at the start of last season and the 20-year-old has developed into one of the best players in his position in the Serie A.
According to reports over recent weeks, Tottenham have been extremely impressed with the wing-back’s development this season and are excited about what he can add to the squad when he returns to North London at the end of the campaign (90min).
However, Udogie has come under criticism for some of his performances recently, with TuttoMercatoWeb labelling him ‘too soft’ on the back of his display against Monza.
Petiziol has now opined that the reason behind the dip in the Italy Under-21 international’s form could be that he is already thinking ahead to next season.
The journalist told Voce Giallorossa about Udogie: “It’s no coincidence that Tottenham have already bought him.
“At the moment, however, his head seems a bit halfway between Tottenham and Udinese.
“I don’t know if that’s subconsciously or consciously, knowing that he’s already at Tottenham, but sometimes, it seems like he takes his foot off.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Given that Udinese find themselves involved in a mid-table muddle this season and essentially have nothing more to play for, one can forgive the 20-year-old for looking forward to next season at Spurs.
While there is no doubt that he would want a strong end to his time at the Stadio Friuli, it is only natural that a little complacency would set in.
