According to reports out of Italy, Tottenham Hotspur have identified Udinese striker Beto as a potential replacement for Harry Kane if he leaves the club this summer, but they will face competition for his signature.

Harry Kane may be a Spurs legend at this point, but there are major doubts over how long he will remain at the club.

With less than 12 months remaining on his current contract, there is a chance the 29-year-old will make a move this summer, or leave for free next year.

German giants Bayern Munich are circling Kane with a view to arranging a transfer this summer. It is believed the Bundesliga side are preparing a new offer of around £80m for the England captain (Daily Mirror).

If Kane were to leave this year, Tottenham would face a mammoth task in replacing him. Despite the challenge, it appears the North London side are laying the foundations and scouting out potential new strikers.

Beto is a wanted man in North London

If Gianluca Di Marzio journalist Nathan Gissing is to be believed, Tottenham are looking at Udinese attacker Beto as someone they could sign this summer to fill the void left by Kane.

Gissing tweeted: “Understand Udinese striker Beto has interest from several clubs including Juventus, Fulham and Tottenham, who is expected to leave this summer. Napoli have also made two offers to date. Udinese want €35 million (£30m).”

The 25-year-old bagged ten goals for Udinese last season in Serie A, along with one assist (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Beto is a decent player but I just can’t see his goalscoring ability being at the kind of level we need if he is to replace Harry Kane.

Ten goals in Serie A is not to be sniffed at, but it’s highly unlikely that would translate to anything like the kind of numbers needed to lead the line in the Premier League.

Destiny Udogie may be a newcomer to North London, but the young Italian has already faced off against both Dejan Kulusevski and Guglielmo Vicario in the past.

It has been a long wait for Spurs fans to see Destiny Udogie in action in the famous white kit. Signed from Udinese last summer, the youngster would remain with the Italian side for the 2022/23 campaign before returning to Tottenham permanently.

In total, Udogie made 71 appearances for Udinese over the years, registering seven goals and eight assists.

Naturally, the starlet has come up against some of the best players in the world during his time in Serie A, but has always risen to the challenge.

This exciting talent has left Spurs fans with great expectations for the 20-year-old in this coming season, with hopes that he can slot perfectly into Ange Postecoglou’s attacking style of play.

Udogie had Kulusevski covered in their last battle

In an interview with Football.London, Udogie talked about a range of topics, and shared some insight into what it’s like to play against both Dejan Kulusevski and Guglielmo Vicario.

On his experience playing opposite Dejan Kulusevski when the Swede was with Juventus, Udogie said, with a smile: “Yeah I know him from Italy, Juventus. I played against him in his last season. I kept him well [covered] so…”

As for new Spurs keeper, Vicario, Udogie added: “I played against him two times, yeah. One this year and one last year. He is a very good keeper, tough, tough.” And, when asked if he had managed to score against his fellow Italian, Udogie replied: “No, no, he is lucky, lucky.”

Thankfully, there are no grudges, as Udogie mentions the welcome he has received at Spurs: “I’m lucky there is an Italian guy with me, it’s very important. All the team are really good guys, almost everybody: H [Kane], Hojbjerg, Dier, very good guys. Obviously, Sonny is a very good player. I’m very excited to play with him, to assist him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is reassuring to hear that Guglielmo Vicario has been a tough opponent in the past, and hopefully the keeper can adjust to the Premier League quickly.

As for Udogie battling against Kulusevski, that is a fascinating contest, and we are just thankful that they are both on the same side now.

Spurs have been offered the chance to sign Beto

Defensa Central claim that the 6-foot-3-inch centre-forward is now on the lookout for a new club, with the player’s agent alleged to have ‘made contact’ with Spurs and Real Madrid.

However, it is explained that neither club have shown an interest in snapping up Beto so far.

It is suggested that the reason could be Udinese’s asking price of €30m (£25.6m), with ‘no club’ willing to meet that price so far.

The report asserts that the Italian could thus have to reduce their demands over the coming weeks if they hope to sell the 25-year-old.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Kane now looking extremely likely to stay and with Richarlison more than capable of covering for the centre-forward role, I do not see Spurs entering the market for another number nine this summer.

A wide forward is likely to be on Postecoglou’s agenda following Moura’s and Danjuma’s departure.

The North London club’s decision has been vindicated as he enjoyed another astounding campaign for Andrea Sottil’s side, impressing defensively as well as going forward.

The 20-year-old, who has featured most often as a left wing-back, scored three goals and provided four assists in 33 league appearances this season (Transfermarkt).

Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube channel last month that although some at Tottenham feel that Udogie needs to improve the defensive side of his game, there is excitement around N17 regarding what he could do next season.

Udogie’s agent, Antonelli, has now revealed that it was not just Spurs who he held negotiations with last summer, and the left-back would have preferred to remain in Italy if such a move was possible.

Destiny Udogie is happy to get started at Spurs

He told Radio CRC (20/06/23 as relayed by Calcio Napoli 1926 and Sport Witness): “Before deciding to go and accept Tottenham’s offer in August last year, we visited the tables of Italian football teams many times because we wanted to stay here.

“Everyone liked him, but negotiating from an economic point of view has always been difficult.

“Going to Tottenham is something beautiful and he is happy to go there. Remaining in Italy, however, was the first goal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spanish and Italian clubs have still not recovered from the economic impact of Covid, which is why Premier League sides continue to have a huge advantage over these clubs in the transfer market.

The talent drain into England has accelerated manyfold over the last couple of weeks and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

The youngster played all 90 minutes for Udinese in their final league game of the season as they fell to a 1-0 loss to Juventus on Sunday.

Speaking after the game, Udogie told the Italian club’s official website: “We all wanted the win and to end the season with a positive result in front of our fans.

“This is football – it’s a real shame. I have to thank the club so much for having invested and believed in me during these two seasons.

“All I want to say is thank you. I knew my qualities, I just wanted to express them and Udinese gave me this great chance. I am ready for the future and for the Premier League.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Udogie’s form did dip during the last few months of the campaign but that was to be expected, given that Udinese had nothing to play for and he might have already had half an eye on next season.

The 20-year-old has a great chance of playing a prominent role at Tottenham if he can impress Ange Postecoglou during pre-season.

The North London club’s decision has been vindicated as the 19-year-old has had another astounding campaign for Andrea Sottil’s side, impressing defensively as well as going forward.

The 20-year-old, who has featured most often as a left wing-back, has scored three goals and provided four assists in 32 league appearances this season (Transfermarkt).

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed back in March that there is plenty of excitement at Tottenham regarding the impact that the left wing-back will have next season.

According to Samardzic, Spurs certainly have good reason to be excited, with the Serbian backing his teammate to hit the ground running in North London next season.

The midfielder told The Italian Football Podcast (as relayed by Football Transfers): “Udogie is the best left back in Serie A for me. He can do everything.

“I think he will be an important player for Tottenham next year. He is an amazing player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The best judges of players are usually their teammates who watch them in training regularly and all of Udinese’s stars have nothing but good things to say about Udogie.

So, there are reasons for Spurs fans to get excited, particularly considering that the left-back is only 20 years of age and is nowhere near his peak as of yet.

Football.London have revealed on their weekly loan update that Destiny Udogie has found himself in the unusual position of having to come on as a second-half substitute during Udinese‘s last two Serie A encounters.

Udogie has enjoyed another impressive campaign at the Dacia Arena, having been an ever-present in Andrea Sottil’s starting eleven until recently.

The 20-year-old has made 31 league appearances this season, with three goals and four assists to his name so far (Transfermarkt).

However, the left wing-back has found himself being left on the bench for Udinese’s last two encounters against Fiorentina and Sampdoria – a situation he is not used to since breaking into the first team at the start of last season.

The Italy Under-21 international got 29 minutes as a substitute on Sunday as his side fell to a 2-0 defeat at Artemio Franchi Stadium.

Udogie has just three more games left in a Udinese shirt before he links up with the Tottenham squad for pre-season, a year on from sealing a move to North London.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think we should be reading too much into Udogie’s decline in form over the last few months.

Not only do Udinese have nothing to play for but the youngster’s head is probably already at Spurs, which might be the reason why Sottil has decided against starting him in the last two matches.

While the deal might have seemed like a risky one at the time to some people, it is now looking like more and more of a bargain with each game that the 20-year-old plays this season.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed last month that there is plenty of excitement at Tottenham regarding the impact that the left wing-back will have next season.

This was also backed up by 90min, who reported last week that the Spurs hierarchy have been impressed by the youngster’s progress.

Ehizibue has now further whetted the appetite of Tottenham fans by lavishing praise on the Italy Under-21 international.

He told the Serie A official website: “My team-mate Udogie; quality. He’s an excellent player.

“In my first week here, I saw him in training as he sprinted back and forth. I tried to follow him. But, after two or three sprints, I was exhausted while he continued serene. It’s impressive.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Udogie’s engine and his ability in one vs one situations, both defensive and offensively, make him an ideal fit for the left wing-back role in our current system.

However, the new Spurs manager could prefer to set up with a back four instead, which means that the 20-year-old might have to adapt to a new system next season.

Italian journalist Lorenzo Petiziol has suggested that Destiny Udogie’s head might already be at Tottenham, which could be why the left wing-back is not performing as well as he can for Udinese.

Udogie has come on leaps and bounds since establishing himself as a regular in the Udinese side at the start of last season and the 20-year-old has developed into one of the best players in his position in the Serie A.

According to reports over recent weeks, Tottenham have been extremely impressed with the wing-back’s development this season and are excited about what he can add to the squad when he returns to North London at the end of the campaign (90min).

However, Udogie has come under criticism for some of his performances recently, with TuttoMercatoWeb labelling him ‘too soft’ on the back of his display against Monza.

Petiziol has now opined that the reason behind the dip in the Italy Under-21 international’s form could be that he is already thinking ahead to next season.

The journalist told Voce Giallorossa about Udogie: “It’s no coincidence that Tottenham have already bought him.

“At the moment, however, his head seems a bit halfway between Tottenham and Udinese.

“I don’t know if that’s subconsciously or consciously, knowing that he’s already at Tottenham, but sometimes, it seems like he takes his foot off.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Udinese find themselves involved in a mid-table muddle this season and essentially have nothing more to play for, one can forgive the 20-year-old for looking forward to next season at Spurs.

While there is no doubt that he would want a strong end to his time at the Stadio Friuli, it is only natural that a little complacency would set in.

Sport Mediaset have revealed that Udinese are expected to hit Destiny Udogie with a fine after the on-loan Tottenham man crashed his car into a bar in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Udogie had a major scare as his car reportedly smashed into a bar, damaging tables, chairs and umbrellas, with the total cost of the damage estimated at £2,600 (Mirror).

Although there was damage to his Mercedes, the player emerged from the incident unscathed while no one else was hurt either.

Udinese had confirmed that Udogie was involved in the incident and that the player had turned up to training later on the same day but Tottenham have not commented on the matter.

Sport Mediaset have now provided further details on the incident, stating that the left-back had ‘destroyed the outdoor furniture’ and that one of the umbrellas also hit a nearby car, shattering its window in the process.

They confirm that the player ‘didn’t report any consequences’ but add that the 20-year-old would have to pay a fine to the club ‘as established by the internal regulation’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Udogie is extremely lucky that he is getting off with a fine rather than suffering any physical injuries.

The 20-year-old will likely be warned by both Spurs and Udinese, who will hope that he would use this as a lesson and does not repeat similar mistakes in the future.

Tottenham’s signing of Udogie last summer appears to be a masterstroke, with the 20-year-old building on his impressive debut season and hitting new heights so far in 2022-23.

The on-loan Spurs star, who picked up Udinese’s Player of the Month award for February (Football.London), has not only proven to be dangerous in the final third but has also been extremely tidy at the back this season.

However, Udogie did not have the best outing against Monza, who clinched a 2-2 draw at Stadio Friuli this Saturday, with TuttoMercatoWeb suggesting that the youngster needs to be stronger in challenges.

TMW gave the left wing-back a rating of 5.5/10 and wrote about his display: “Something more is always expected from him.

“It can’t be said that he hurts, but sometimes he is too soft in duels and lacks lucidity in the last thirty meters.”

However, it does not appear as if Tottenham are too concerned about this criticism, with 90 min reporting on Tuesday that the Lilywhites have been extremely impressed with Udogie’s progress so far in this campaign.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even though Udogie has played two full seasons of top-level football, it is important to remember that he is only 20 years of age.

Spurs will be patient with the youngster and I would not be surprised if they look to loan him out to a Premier League club for next season so that he can continue getting regular game time under his belt.

Destiny Udogie has been involved in a ‘horror’ car crash in Italy, according to The Daily Mirror.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Thursday morning in Udine, with Udogie reportedly smashing his Mercedes into a local bar.

The crash is said to have caused an estimated €3,000 (£2,600) of damage, with photos showing tables, chairs and umbrellas all being on the receiving end.

Thankfully, it turns out that no one was injured as a result of the incident, with the on-loan Tottenham man also walking away completely unscathed.

The owner of the bar was left in shock by the crash, telling a local news station that it sounded like a bomb had gone off.

He is quoted as saying: “A car hit the bar. It seems that a bomb went off. 12 chairs, three tables, two umbrellas, five large plant holders and about ten plants were destroyed.

“Only one was saved. One of the parasols even ended up under a parked car, also the one hit by the out-of-control vehicle.”

The Mirror revealed that Udogie did report for training at Udinese’s base later on Thursday.

The publication states that while the Serie A club have confirmed the incident, Tottenham refused to comment on the matter.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the pictures doing the rounds, there seems to have been considerable damage done to the bar.

Udogie can consider himself quite lucky to come out of this without any serious injury.

Hopefully, the youngster learns from this poor mistake.

The 20-year-old produced another impressive display for Andrea Sottil’s men on Sunday as they overcame AC Milan 3-1 at the Dacia Arena to keep their hopes of European qualification alive.

The Italy Under-21 international was heavily involved in the home side’s second goal in stoppage time at the end of the first half and then set up Udinese’s third goal in the 70th minute, which clinched the result.

Udogie found space in the box and although his shot was rolling wide, it was tapped home at the back post by Kingsley Ehizibue to secure the victory.

Football.London revealed that the left wing-back was awarded Udinese’s Player of the Month Award for last month after the final whistle on Sunday.

Spurs Web Opinion

There might have been some fortune involved with the assist, with Udogie clearly not getting the desired connection on the cross/shot but that does not take away from another solid display from the 20-year-old.

My only concern regarding the Italian is whether he would fit in at Spurs next season if the club replace Conte with a manager like Pochettino or Enrique, who prefer playing with a back four.

The transfer has turned out to be an inspired move from the North London club as the 20-year-old has gone from strength-to-strenth this season and been one of the standout wing-backs in the Serie A.

The youngster would perhaps have been disappointed at missing out on Italy’s squad for their upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

However, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed last month that there is plenty of excitement at Spurs regarding the impact that the left wing-back could have at N17 next season.

Udogie played all 90 minutes on Sunday as Udinese overcame the Rossoneri 3-1 at the Dacia Arena and it appears that the on-loan Tottenham man posed Stefano Pioli’s side plenty of problems.

TMW gave the left wing-back a rating of 7/10 and wrote about his performance: “He starts by picking up the pace in the left-handed lane, when he sinks the Rossoneri go into total confusion. Only the goal is missing, but the performance is top-notch.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do wonder how Conte’s departure would affect Udogie’s prospects at Spurs as the 20-year-old is clearly better suited to playing as a wing-back rather than a full-back.

Given the current make-up of the Tottenham squad, Paratici might well be leaning towards appointing another manager who plays three at the back.

Mundo Udinese have suggested that Tottenham Hotspur could go back in for Udinese’s Gerard Deulofeu in the summer after nearly striking a deal to sign the forward during the January transfer window.

Tottenham allowed Bryan Gil to leave on loan in January and strengthened their forward line with the acquisition of Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal.

However, Italian outlets reported during that time that Spurs first explored a deal for Deulofeu and only later turned their attention to Danjuma (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Mundo Udinese have now provided more clarity on the North London club’s pursuit of the former Watford man, asserting that the Premier League side had ‘even closed the deal’ for the player.

However, it is explained that the 28-year-old then picked up an injury which led to the deal collapsing.

The publication adds that another approach for Deulofeu from Antonio Conte’s side ‘cannot be ruled out’ in the summer transfer window.

Mundo Udinese state that the Serie A club will find it ‘difficult’ to turn down an offer from Tottenham, given the attacking options they have at their disposal and the money that they could stand to earn for the Spaniard.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is usually a shortage of top players available during January as most clubs would not want to let their prized assets leave mid-season.

That might be the reason behind Tottenham exploring deals for the likes of Deulofeu.

I would be surprised if Spurs go back in for the Udinese star in the summer when a lot of other options will be on the market.

Udinese boss Andrea Sottil has said that Destiny Udogie is more than ready to make his debut for Italy’s senior side.

Tottenham decided to snap up Udogie last summer on the back of his breakthrough season in 2021-22 and decided to loan him back to Udinese.

The signing seems better and better with each passing week, with the 20-year-old hitting ever greater heights for the Serie A club so far this season.

The youngster has not just been excellent defensively but also has the engine to go up and down the pitch through the 90 minutes while being capable of making an impact in the final third.

On the face of it, Udogie seems like a perfect fit for the left wing-back role in Antonio Conte’s system, with Fabio Paratici even describing him as a ‘complete player’ in an interview with Tottenham’s club’s official website.

Udogie has represented Italy at all age group levels from Under-16s to Under-21s but he is yet to get a call-up to the senior Azzurri set-up.

When asked why the left-back has not made his debut for Italy yet, Sottil told TuttoMercatoWeb: “You should ask coach Mancini, for me he is super-ready. I train him every day and I see him do what he does in Serie A, with disarming ease.

“It is no coincidence that Tottenham bought him, paying out several million euros for a player born in 2002. If you ask me, he is super-ready.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Out of all our signings last summer, Udogie might actually prove to be the best one.

The 20-year-old appears ready to walk into the Tottenham team as first-choice at left wing-back and there is no doubt that we would have had to pay a considerably bigger fee had we signed him last month or the upcoming summer window.

The 20-year-old has undoubtedly been one of the standout wing-backs in the Serie A this season, with Fabio Paratici even describing the youngster as a ‘complete player’ in his interview with Tottenham’s club’s official website a couple of weeks ago.

Udogie found the back of the net for the third time this season on Sunday, just 25 seconds after kick-off, with the youngster cutting in on his right foot and unleashing a well-directed strike into the far corner.

Watch the on-loan Spurs star’s striker against Sassuolo below:

Spurs Web Opinion

It might not be the cleanest of hits by Udogie but he showed great enterprise by cutting in on his right when he saw there was space to exploit in the middle, with the opposition defender covering the outside.  This is the sort of aggression that Conte would want to see from his wing-backs when they are in one vs one situation.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur came ‘really close’ to snapping up Udinese forward Gerard Deulofeu and that the move only fell through because the Spaniard picked up a serious injury.

Tottenham strengthened their forward line with the acquisition of Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal in January and the move seemed to come out of the blue last week, with the Lilywhites reportedly swooping in just before the Dutchman was about to sign for Everton after completing his medical at Goodison Park (The Athletic).

TuttoMercatoWeb reported on January 24 that Spurs explored a move for Deulofeu and only turned their attention to Danjuma after failing to strike an agreement with Udinese for the former Watford man.

Tottenham’s interest in the 28-year-old has now been backed up by Romano, who has stated that a deal to take the forward to the North London club was ‘almost done’ before he picked up a serious injury.

Romano has now said on his YouTube channel: “I can reveal, and this is an exclusive name, that Tottenham were considering a move for Gerard Deulofeu, Udinese player. He’s doing incredible in Serie A, had a fantastic first part of the season. He’s already Premier League-proven.

“Deulofeu was really close to Tottenham. From what I heard, the deal was almost done for Deulofeu to join Tottenham. But what happened is that Gerard Deulofeu had a serious injury, and so, he was not available anymore right before joining Tottenham.”

Deulofeu has scored three times and provided seven assists across all competitions so far this season (Transfermarkt) but he sustained a knee injury at the start of last week and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Spurs Web Opinion

It seems like Spurs had identified Deulofeu as an alternative to Nicolo Zaniolo and quickly turned their attention to Danjuma once the Spaniard sustained a serious injury.

That explains why the club swooped for the Dutchman at the last moment just as he was about to sign for Everton. This revelation also makes it less likely that Tottenham will consider taking up the option to sign Danjuma permanently unless he plays out of his skin for the next six months.

Deulofeu has shown glimpses of brilliance at times during his stints at Watford and Everton, however, he is set to turn 29 next year which could see Spurs lose interest – having reportedly failed to follow up their interest in 28-year-old Leandro Trossard after it was said they felt he lacked resale value (The Athletic).

The 20-year-old has four goal contributions to his name far in the Serie A this season and looks set to compete for the left wing-back spot at Tottenham next season if he continues in the same vein.

Udinese boss Andrea Sottil even described the Italy Under-21 international as an ‘extraordinary’ player after his side’s loss to Juventus a couple of weeks ago (Football.London).

However, TuttoMercatoWeb have not been complimentary of the on-loan Spurs star’s latest showing, giving him a rating of just 5.5/10 for his display against Verona.

The publication wrote about Udogie’s performance on Tuesday: “Something more is always expected from him. It can’t be said that he hurts, but sometimes he is too soft in duels and lacks lucidity in the last thirty meters.”

Spurs Web Opinion

At Udogie’s age, it is only natural that there is a bit of inconsistency, which should improve as he gets more experience under his belt.

There is no doubt in my mind that the 20-year-old would be an upgrade on Ryan Sessegnon but Tottenham might also feel that he could benefit from spending next season on loan as well before returning to the club as a finished product in 2024.

TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that Tottenham explored a deal for Udinese forward Gerard Deulofeu before turning their attention to Arnaut Danjuma.

Reports indicated on Tuesday hat Spurs hijacked Everton’s move for Danjuma, with the North London club swooping for the Villarreal player even after he had completed a medical at Goodison Park (The Athletic).

According to Fabrizio Romano, Antonio Conte’s men are expected to complete the paperwork to sign the Dutch international on loan today, with the Toffees said to be ‘furious’ at missing out on the 25-year-old.

TWM have now also stated that Spurs are ‘finalising’ a loan deal for Danjuma but they claim that the player was not the Premier League club’s first choice. The report suggests  that Tottenham explored a deal to sign Deulofeu from Udinese over recent days but could not strike an agreement with the Serie A club.

Spurs wanted to sign the former Watford man on loan while Udinese preferred a permanent sale, which is why the Lilywhites turned their attention to Danjuma instead.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect that Tottenham feared losing out on Nicolo Zaniolo after Milan entered the race for the player over recent days, which is why they scrambled for alternatives. From the sounds of it, Danjuma’s name was a fair way down the club’s wishlist and the Villarreal man is nothing more than a temporary stopgap.
