Gary Neville cited Jurgen Klopp’s criticism of Tottenham’s defensive approach as the reason why he did not want to become manager Antonio Conte at Manchester United.
Tottenham came away with a deserved 1-1 draw from Anfield on Saturday after putting in a disciplined performance.
The home side barely created any clear-cut chances and were restricted to playing hopeful crosses into the box for the majority of his encounter.
When Klopp was asked in his post-match press conference if he was impressed with Spurs’ defending, he insisted that he does not like the kind of defensive football that Antonio Conte’s men played (Sky Sports).
The German remarked that the North Londoners have world-class players and should have been more adventurous.
Klopp has come under criticism for his comments from some sections of the media (ESPN) but Neville seemingly agreed with the Liverpool boss’ assessment.
The former Manchester United defender previously remarked that Conte would be the right fit for the Red Devils (Sky Sports), and he has now pointed to Klopp’s comments as the reason why he made the claim.
I respect Conte and his football enormously but this Klopp interview gives the clear reason why he wasn’t the right fit for United https://t.co/cyTob36t9e

Spurs Web Opinion
I respect Neville as I think he is one of the few pundits in football who does his research and offers genuine insight into the game. However, these comments reek of someone who has said something incorrect in the past and is trying to double down to avoid embarrassment.
The reality is that Spurs have been one of the most free-scoring sides in the division since Conte arrived, and his game plan against Liverpool worked perfectly.
Every other team apart from Man City have defended with a low-block at Anfield this season and Klopp did not call those teams out. The reason he was annoyed on Saturday was because Conte’s tactics worked and Liverpool were not able to break us down.
