Phil Bardsley thinks that Cole Palmer would have been better served joining a club like Tottenham rather than moving to Chelsea as he is unlikely to get too much game time at Stamford Bridge.
Tottenham already beat out Chelsea to one young British attacker in Brennan Johnson, who was allegedly keener on joining the North London side as he was prioritising regular game time (Times).
Some outlets have even suggested that the Blues actually struck a deal with Forest for the 22-year-old before the move fell through, thus allowing Spurs to swoop for him (Foot Mercato).

Bardsley has suggested that Palmer should have done the same as joining a club like Tottenham or West Ham United would have been better for his development.
The City academy graduate is quite highly rated, with Chelsea paying £45m including add-ons to secure his services, but the pundit has questioned whether the 21-year-old will play much football at the West London side.

The former Burnley right-back told Sky Sports (01/09, 10 am) “You are talking about regular football that Palmer wants. If you are going to go to Chelsea, then it’s probably highly unlikely that, at this stage, he is going to play ahead of Sterling and Nkunku on the left.
“I think maybe a West Ham or a Spurs might have suited him at this stage of his career if he wanted to play consistent football. But it is what it is. It’s his choice and it’s Manchester City’s choice as well.”

There were no suggestions during the summer that Tottenham were ever interested in a deal for Palmer. While the England Under-21 international has plenty of potential, paying £45m for a player who has made only a handful of Premier League appearances is a big gamble.
